A girl haunted by visions. A killer no one will name. Laurin (1989) wraps genuine menace in a fog of fairy tale dread. It's European #folkhorror at its most atmospheric & criminally overlooked.

and a fantastic read it is, too!
a hand holding a zine printed on white cardstock entitled "Lost Coast: Notes on Greenwitch, The Fog, and Enys Men" by Dee Holloway.
interior page of a chapter entitled "Color." it begins with an Alabama Shakes line from "Sound and Color": "A new world hangs / outside the window / Beautiful and strange / It must be I've fallen awake / I must be." the paragraph reads: "'Are you weird?' asks Elizabeth when Nick picks her up en route to Antonio Bay in the opening sequences of The Fog. When Nick averrs that he is indeed weird, Elizabeth is relieved: she isn't afraid of encountering predators or perverts, merely of being bored by normies. "Weird" as flavor, texture, and color pervades Carpenter films, evidenced in The Fog as the signature weather event. Fog along the California coast isn't unusual; the acid-green tinge of this fog is, broadcasting its status as harbinger and invader as clearly as DJ Stevie broadcasts the fog's movements across Antonio Bay in real time."
April 21 is #FogDay! grab a digital copy of my zine exploring The Fog+Greenwitch+Enys Men & celebrate spooky spring.
(print copies are around, if you know where to look 👀)

I watched Hagazussa a couple of days ago and I'm still thinking about it. It definitely got under my skin.
The score is amazing. While I was watching it I thought it sounded a lot like MMMD (who I'm a big fan of), only to realise that the score was by MMMD!
For years I avoided their first few albums, convinced that there was no way they could be as perfectly formed as the main 70s stuff. I was wrong. Oh so very, very wrong.
I've got the sequel novel here on my "to read" pile. Looking forward to it, but it is a very large pile!

I know it's wrong to judge a book by its cover, but that really is superb
Come Sing For The Harrowing by @dancoxon.bsky.social is released today. Tales of folk horror to delight and enrich your soul. I am definitely judging this book by it's cover which is amazing 📚 📖

Lawrence Gordon Clark's 1979 ITV adaptation of M.R. James' 'Casting the Runes' doesn't quite match his best BBC work. but it's far better than its reputation suggests.

Excellent film! I wish it were more widely available.
A private eye. A missing man. A deal with something older than the law. Alan Parker's Angel Heart (1987) is folk horror dressed as noir and Mickey Rourke has never been more lost.

More folk horror! More folk horror!
"Animals of the Land" is a beautifully vicious folk horror that turns biblical myth into a slow-burning hell of sacrifice and human darkness. #fantaspoa2026

Hokum's top of my must see list. McCarthy's last, Oddity, is a belter of a film

So much on offer with each reward level (I'm totally going to rock that t-shirt)! The real reward is getting this film made, and knowing how amazing @jakebenson.bsky.social & team Draugr are, it's going to be fantastic! #horror #kickstarter #folkhorror #horrorsky www.kickstarter.com/projects/jot...

We recorded our podcast for Kill List just last week. It's one of our favourites, too. The podcast should be out mid-May, but it's not much of a spoiler to say that it scores *very* highly

Even his "for hire" films are fun. I thoroughly enjoyed The Meg 2 in a "switch of brain and enjoy the ride" way ;-)
