I’m having a hard time deciding if I will miss him or Collins less after this upcoming election. Argh!!!!

6/6 Read the latest blog post from EdTrust’s SVP Wil Del Pilar to learn more about what’s at stake and why federal action is needed now to protect Pell: bit.ly/4mqpMw2
5/6 Protecting Pell Grants means protecting opportunity, economic mobility, and a stronger future U.S. workforce.
4/6 If funding gaps aren’t addressed, we could see fewer students from middle- and low-income backgrounds enrolling, persisting, and graduating from college.
3/6 For many students, Pell Grants aren’t a bonus; they’re the difference between going to college, dropping out, or forgoing college altogether.
2/6 A projected $17 BILLION shortfall could threaten the future of the Pell program, putting millions of students at risk of losing critical financial aid they need to afford and attend college.
1/6 Pell Grants are a lifeline for millions of students to make college affordable in the U.S. But Pell Grants are currently at risk.
They clearly meant it: “Thus, students develop explicit awareness of and
vocabulary for many concepts they have been developing…”
I generally love a lot about the progressions, but this isn’t my favorite bit.
Yeah. :( Even though understanding of these attributes is actually in fourth.
I’m thinking especially about the last 20 seconds. What WOULD make for a sustainable society???
Her use of math about wealth inequality is 🔥🔥🔥. Math teachers, there is some great stuff here. #ITeachMath #mtbos #debatemath
They changed our state test every year up here for three years in a row, so they aren't valid. Now they're putting all their eggs in NWEA, and then handwringing about drops in scores. I'm trying to figure out what the deal is with this thing.
Did you see the protractor problem? I got it off the NWEA site where they have a sample 3rd grade test. Argh. Have you noticed other places where NWEA and CCSS are not aligned?
I'm all for angles and perpendicular/parallel staying in 4th. So let's just move the darn hierarchy of quads there too!
For example, I notice students think about vertices/angles as corners, so when it’s time to think about angles as a measure of turn or rotation next year, they will have to deconstruct another partial understanding they built this year to get through this stuff.
I just wish the standards were clearer here so we could do it in 4th. All this talk about the properties of shapes without some of the understanding is creating some unhelpful thoughts that next year, we’ll have to address.
I'm trying to understand what you mean by "like a rectangle?" For many kids, "like a rectangle" means "elongated."
And also, sometimes a parallelogram has right angles, so we'd be in the same nested conditions.
I'm looking for an intellectually honest, developmentally appropriate definition. :)
Me neither. Especially that angle!
What do you think about the opposite sides are parallel stuff?
Hi k8! Thanks! How do you feel about them identifying parallelograms without spending time on parallel?

#ITeachMath, I'm confused about grades 3 & 4 Common Core geometry expectations. By my reading, angles, (including special angles) and parallel/perpendicular lines are both 4th grade standards. Yet 3rd graders seem expected to ID special quadrilaterals by right angles & parallel sides. Any advice?
Maine too. GRRRRR
The Population of the United States.
Especially my feckless senator, Susan Collins, empty chair of appropriations.
Thank you so much!
Any idea where it will be streamed?
THREAD: Cherise Doyley was in her 12th hour of contractions at the hospital when a tablet was brought to her bedside.
On the screen was a Zoom call with a judge and several lawyers and doctors.
She was in court, a nurse told her. The reason? For failing to agree to a C-section.
