Honestly, he got it. This is an impossibly hard thing to get right. I can quibble about some parts, and it’s impossible to do normie content that’s also sufficient for the moment, but he did as good a job as is possible. Especially glad he rightfully called out the threat to journalists.

It's a famous quote from Kurt Vonnegut about computers. It goes: "I work at home, and if I wanted to, I could have a computer right by my bed, and I’d never have to leave it. But I use a typewriter, and afterwards I mark up the pages with a pencil. Then I call up this woman named Carol out in Woodstock and say, “Are you still doing typing?” Sure she is, and her husband is trying to track bluebirds out there and not having much luck, and so we chitchat back and forth, and I say, “OK, I’ll send you the pages.”

Then I’m going down the steps, and my wife calls up, “Where are you going?” I say, “Well, I’m going to go buy an envelope.” And she says, “You’re not a poor man. Why don’t you buy a thousand envelopes? They’ll deliver them, and you can put them in a closet.” And I say, “Hush.” So I go down the steps here, and I go out to this newsstand across the street where they sell magazines and lottery tickets and stationery. I have to get in line because there are people buying candy and all that sort of thing, and I talk to them. The woman behind the counter has a jewel between her eyes, and when it’s my turn, I ask her if there have been any big winners lately. I get my envelope and seal it up and go to the postal convenience center down the block at the corner of 47th Street and 2nd Avenue, where I’m secretly in love with the woman behind the counter. I keep absolutely poker-faced; I never let her know how I feel about her. One time I had my pocket picked in there and got to meet a cop and tell him about it. Anyway, I address the envelope to Carol in Woodstock. I stamp the envelope and mail it in a mailbox in front of the post office, and I go home. And I’ve had a hell of a good time. And I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don’t let anybody tell you any different.

Electronic communities build nothing. You wind up with nothing. We’re dancing animals. How beautiful it is to get up and go do something. [Gets up and dances a jig.]"

The artistic freedom of game developers is fundamental to games as a cultural medium. Any restrictions improsed by payment service providers or games platforms must not exceed the legal limits.
In Germany, thanks in part to the USK, clear, binding and established rules apply that must be adhered to. Furthermore, creative forms of expressions or certain themes in games, such as diversity, must not be targeted by individual interests or campaigns from particularly vocal groups, as is currently observed on Steam or itch.io. The terms and conditions of global payment service providers such as Visa, Mastercard, or Paypal must not conflict with European values such as freedom of expression or artistic freedom.
We therefore call on the companies involved to design their rules and offerings in a manner that ensures complicance with applicable laws and prevents overblocking.

ok but for real if you want to make a really good indie (or AA) games the number one way is "be financially comfortable via other means"

blue prince guy owned a popular website generating income, toby fox was a successful musician...

frankly if we had a UBI youd get SO MANY GOOD GAMES

Viv is 100% correct here. Your options are always one of three:

1. Do not make an indie game.
2. Get funding, usually by making something that fits a very narrow and useless definition of "safe", and subsequently losing agency over your production reality.
3. Have another income or means.

Pritzker: It’s time for us to be done with optimism about their motives. Time to stop wondering if you can trust the nuclear codes to people who don’t know how to organize a group chat. It’s time to stop ignoring the hypocrisy in wearing a big gold cross while announcing the defunding of children’s cancer research… Autistic kids and adults who are loving contributors to our society don’t deserve to be stigmatized by a weird nepo baby who once stashed a dead bear in his car. Our military service members don’t deserve to be told by a washed-up Fox TV commentator, who drank too much before being appointed Secretary of Defense, that they can’t serve their country simply because they are Black, gay, or a woman.

The ‘Piracy. It’s a Crime’ campaign used pirated music, *and* as it turns out, also used pirated fonts. Incredible.

Maturity is being able to put aside any nostalgia you have for magical wizard children when their existence as an intellectual property is directly used to further the political aims of bigots. I'm tired of excuses. If you are incapable of realizing this you are immature and a bad ally.
