Our new study exploring the interplay of menopausal symptoms, #alcohol use, and #MentalHealth. #Women with worse #menopause symptoms were more likely to report drinking to cope, and this partially mediated the association between symptoms and hazardous drinking journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
Brilliant talk by Prof Mark Bellis on #AdverseChildhoodExperiences There's so much short and long-term value from putting resources into prevention
Very lucky - Jasmine was a brilliant PhD student! New paper exploring experiences and awareness of associations between #alcohol use and #menstrual cycle. This focuses on lower risk drinkers. When I speak to women in recovery, there can be more awareness of an impact urldefense.com/v3/__https:/...
Some of my awesome colleagues have a really nice new paper out today in @addictionjournal.bsky.social looking at recent trends in no/lo alcohol sales and forecasting what might happen to the market in the next couple of years.

We'll create short, anonymous stories to include in new alcohol resources tailored to women. Interviews will cover the roles alcohol has had in your life, the benefits and challenges of reducing or stopping drinking, what worked for you. Stories will give women a sense of community and empowerment.
We're looking for women, and their partners, who have tried to reduce/stop drinking when trying to conceive, during pregnancy, and/or early motherhood (first 5 years). You're invited to take part in an interview (online if preferred). Please contact me or Elaine (researcher) e.mcneill@ljmu.ac.uk
Participants should be 18 years or older, live in the UK, and speak fluent English. Should take around 10-15 minutes. We want to get as diverse a sample a possible, so we can see what sorts of characteristics may affect how alcohol strength influences our decisions.
My students are running a study, asking women what they would find useful in alcohol resources when they're trying to conceive, pregnant, and mums of younger children. There are no restrictions based on how much or how little you drink! Please consider taking part. Thanks!
In January 2025 @nhsUHLG declared a critical incident due to pressures of #flu and #respiratory illness in #Liverpool. #vaccinations can reduce #influenza severity, yet rates remain low. We analysed sociodemographic factors related to #vaccine uptake (1/3)
We're hiring people to join us at LJMU Psychology! It's a lovely place to work (and Liverpool is great - speaking from someone not born/raised here) so if you're in forensic psychology why not apply! @ljmuofficial.bsky.social jobs.ljmu.ac.uk/internal/vac...
One more share for this exciting postdoc job on what promises to be an extremely impactful project shaping how UK social care is delivered for autistic people.

More coproduction with women and healthcare providers! We looked at Colours/design, Wellbeing tools, Drink/mood trackers, Preferred information and how to frame this so it's impactful but non-judgemental. Let me know if you want to get involved!

I hope your 2025 is fun, calm and full of good health, with a peppering of adventure and a sprinkle of magic. Beautiful sunsets should feature too!
