If you ever witnessed pancreatic cancer, god forbid witnessed it in someone you love - you could NEVER be against a potential cure.

I would rather something mildly painful happen than have someone knock on my door with no warning.
cue the "another disappointing week in men" klaxon.
one month out from my first tour of 2026 ๐ค
MARINERS!
Sure! "Cyclists have a right to the road, too, you noisy, polluting, inconsiderate maniacs! I hope gas goes up to eight bucks a gallon!"
$8 a gallon for gas???
That's right
Never sure if I should be horrified or flattered when EMT's / ER Docs / Attendings ask what part of health care I work in. My career? Oh no. It's just the trauma of loving ill people in America & having to sound like a PhD to be believed in medical settings as a woman.
and he has spoken delightedly about it to nearly every person he encounters.
he still has a long way to go

but I know music
will be somewhere
near the heart
of it all.

the human brain is a fascinating, terrifying thing. my beloved dad has been in the hospital for over a week. he doesn't remember most of the last week - but he daily remembers listening to Dolly Parton's
"Rockstar" record the morning we took him to the ER (1/2)
it's wild his full name was entertainment entertainment cummings

In the last week my mother was diagnosed with metastatic cancer and my father has been hospitalized with severe delirium - which has not improved for five days. It has been like being hit with a firehose of my worst fears all at once. And it's not getting better.
i'm a fraternal twin and my sister and i called identical twins "scary twins" when we were kiddos and this is why
I rolled my eyes as a kid & doubted the value then, but I am forever grateful for the insistence about politeness and manners from my parents.
Cinderella's foot being fitted with a grippy sock
made my psychiatrist cry today, how's your week going?

I turned it off before tears completely made it impossible to drive.
My stereo shuffle is an emotional terrorist - on the way to a scary medical procedure for my Mom it played "Helplessly Hoping" by CSNY, "Brokedown Palace" by The Grateful Dead, and "Summer's End" by John Prine. 1-2-3 punch of devastation.
ah the feed did good ๐ค
having an existential crisis choosing a shirt for tomorrow, which is sure to be one of the hardest and saddest of my life. i don't want to ruin a favorite by forever associating it with the day, but also want something that brings me comfort on such a day.
It can be deadly. I am lucky that my infection responded to antibiotics and that surgical intervention (a year later, at my insistence) has removed the issue (18 inches of my colon that kept getting reinfected). Listen to your body as you would ask a friend to listen to theirs. You are needed.
3 years ago I went to the hospital w/ a fever & minor abdominal pain & was admitted for sepsis from a perforated bowel. The pain was no worse than any period I had to go to school or work with. Women downplay health concerns to themselves because they are not believed in clinical settings.
Hope you enjoy them, they've been balms and much needed distractions.
The peak of civilization
Also like the "Wildcard Kitchen" which is like a poker game where the cards are ingredients, styles, etc. and both Tournament of Champions and Wildcard Kitchen have blind judging which is fascinating to watch.
wheel of doom
we stream it through Hulu I think and it's on Discovery Plus, though a new season just started on the food network (2 episodes in). There's a Voltagio on it and Stephanie Izzard and a lot of old favorites. Plus a Price is Right style wheel of doom that truly causes havoc. It's a joy.
Couldn't have come at a better time. Do you watch Tournament of Champions? That's my other US cooking comfort show
thank you.
