but also the real answer is that yeah it is kind of awkward but you can just say it outright to one of them, like "HEY I KNOW SOMEONE I THINK YOU'D GET ON WITH, WANT AN INTRODUCTION OR DOES THAT SOUND UNPLEASANT? [no pressure i haven't said anything to them yet]"

AI writing has exactly this character! This isn't an accusation, obviously, since the books predate that, but y'know. Ask an AI to write you some slow-burner fantasy novel scenes and this is exactly how it will try to show-don't-tell things, when it can resist the urge to just blurt out the plot

Machine learning started out of academic/scientific computing! Everything was built around the need for rapid experimentation, and the existence of things like jupyter notebook were huge boosts for that
grab that language setting in all of your games and set that shit to deutsch rn. every moment you're listening to german being spoken and trying to understand it is passive XP gain

Rocket (furred dragon) sitting on a couch sipping on martini. He looks back at the POV with a smile. The room is fancy with potted plants a 'couch' with cushions, a 'chaise', a 'chandelier', a 'mounted trophy', and a 'table.'

Same but I was a big fan of The Goblin Emperor's little travel guide / cultural primer at the start, which isn't exactly the same thing but feels spiritually similar
celebrating the downfall of orbán with a short reading from the good book

Realtalk there's actual reluctance to fund that research in case it makes drinking too much bearable and everyone gets liver failure
I've been watching those with friends too! From Russia With Love really is the best one for a long time despite the evil lesbian KGB lieutenant
Eli (karistarry.bsky.social) strumming a moon harp. Behind them, an eclipse halo and a sun disk. They're sitting on a radial tile floor with ornamented tassled pillows strewn about. Hanging drapes with star-shaped beads, as well as sheer star veils frame the piece. In the background is a gold/bronze-trimmed folding partition with a vague, abstracted star map on it. Unlike that, the curtains in the top left and top right of the piece have real star placements relative to each other. The harpstrings give a lingering glow in places Eli has strummed. This song has formed Gemini

Also worth noting that his plane is a biplane, something noticeably old-fashioned compared to Eggman's machines
Yeah I wonder, like whether his technology thing just snuck in because he really represented 'flight', he was a natural helicopter who could also fly a plane, they weren't thinking too hard in Sonic 2 and then they had to fit a character around that later
Yeah, I guess I see it as like, the characters didn't have room for nuance when it all had to fit into 1 paragraph in a genesis manual. As Tails is added and the setting develops, "industrialization bad" becomes"despoilation bad but invention good", they distinguish solarpunk from smokestacks
I think it's not industrialization so much as despoilation. Tails is solarpunk, he invents things but they're helpful things that don't hurt people, don't damage the environment. Eggman's innovation is always rapacious. The series isn't negative on technology in general!
One of the load screen quotes for Europa Universalis attributed to Francis Drake (died 1596) struck me as unusual so I searched the entire text it's supposed to have come from and I have never read a last line more flagrantly mid-century American in my fucking life
