I wanted to do a little thread to talk about some possible side effects of the Russian governments economic policies as time goes on.

Some of these things may seem obvious once I point them out.

Trump ran on a plan to deport "criminal immigrants". He's having a hard time finding any, because immigrants commit crimes less than native born citizens, but he has to make good on his promise. So he's going after any immigrant who's committed any crime.

Many Trump voters are frustrated by tariffs and the financial losses. For the first time, people are starting to question his policies as they feel the impact on their wallets. Perhaps you should consider that Trump’s approach to Russia and the war has been just as ill-conceived

26% down on the books this week. Possibly earlier losses not previously accounted. Implying further current losses not yet accounted for. 😈

"Would the US be okay with Canada hosting russian nukes" is a silly question. Ukraine never had any plans to host US nukes. In fact, Ukraine is begging for US nukes and isn't getting them. What would the US do if Canada wanted russian nukes and russia refused to provide them? Nothing.

What's the most expensive military "suit" Zelenskyy could wear to their next meeting? This one is about $20,000.

Deceptively mis-marking your bonds to take advantage of buyer confusion seems a very short-term strategy. The kind of thing russia would do if they didn't think they had much time.

As an offshoot of this thread, let’s talk about what happens if federal, state, or local officials text, email, call, or show up at your door wanting to talk to you about what you said about the President.

I have a theme, a thesis, a throughline, a leitmotif, which is SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH.

Trump's career is based on betrayal. He signs contracts, then refuses to fulfil his end of the deal. The minerals negotiation doesn't work that way. He needs to help Ukraine defend themselves, *then* he gets minerals from a stable Ukraine.

We shouldn't take anything off the table before the negotiations have even started.

It is clear that any deal behind our backs will not work.
You need the Europeans, you need the Ukrainians.

Keep your messaging simple:

“Trump fired everyone in charge of airplane safety, and a week later planes started crashing into each other.”

That’s it. That’s the messaging. Don’t get bogged down disputing Trump’s false claims. Just blame him, in short and repeatable sentences.

100% true, and painfully obvious to anyone paying the slightest attention from 2015 to 2024. They voted for him anyway. Easiest choice in US history and they blew it. I don't fault the scorpion for being a scorpion. I fault the frogs who voted for the scorpion.

I'm not even mad at Trump this time. I'm mad at the gullible morons who elected him, and who will elect the next dipshit next time.

My dad is slightly older than Trump. He regularly says he's exercising and living healthy so that he can see how Trump dies.

Trump hasn't just pardoned every single J6 criminal. He's also deleted the public record of their indictments.

The main misconception in the West and ᵣussia is that "the war" started in 2022. It's worth repeating again and again that Putin started this war in 2014 by couping Crimea and invading Donbas. The war will end when ᵣussian soldiers go back to Moscow.

I do. I'm also fascinated by Hitler in his last days. The Allies are closing in and Hitler's main priority isn't defending German civilians or negotiating a ceasefire it's killing the last of a people? That POS wasn't just scapegoating. He genuinely convinced himself. Insane.

Who does Putin think is a legitimate Ukrainian representative who can sign documents?

10. Ukraine cannot beat russia. Only russia can beat russia. Putin is repeating Muscovites' mistake in Afghanistan by emptying the treasury, destroying his economy, and killing his workers in an aggressive imperialist war of choice that nobody can justify.

9. Even Gazprom is laying off half of its St Petersburg staff because they can't make ends meet.

8. Corporations can't confiscate funds from private accounts like Putin can. They sell bonds to raise money. But russian businesses can't afford to pay >21% for bonds. They also can't afford to pay high wages to compete with Putin's recruitment offers.

7. Putin needs more money to hire more soldiers, so he's resorting to theft. Here's Alexey Nechayev explaining that if russian people won't invest their money to prolong the stalemate, Putin will just confiscate the funds from every citizen's bank account.

6. Russia has also been burning through its national wealth fund, particularly for foreign purchases. Foreign sellers won't take rubles from a country whose currency is on the brink of collapse.

5. The market thinks it's a bad deal. russia can't get a loan. russia only sold 5% of their bonds this time. The market doesn't think russia will pay them back. Or they think real russian inflation is higher than 21% and their investment will lose money.
