Started a new job, mostly outdoors, with the most training I have ever had to do for a job on the back of a pretty bad mental health episode and I am so tired my brain is trying to escape through my eyes. Safe to say no writing has been done

Competitions like this need to be called out, so they learn their good reputation shouldn't be used to steal the bread from writers' mouths. And that we're not all clueless rubes waiting to be taken advantage of.

I also gave said bug to my girlfriend (inevitable but damn I feel guilty) and we've spent the last few days sitting on the sofa like little coughing zombies who are periodically a bit hysterical pathetically trying to look after each other. I think I forgot what outside looks like.

Have two weeks between ending my old job and starting my new one which was gonna be great writing time then came down with the winter bug to beat all winter bugs and now have to sleep sitting up to avoid coughing up my insides. Weirdly enough not feeling inspired

Hard to know what to say watching the recent news from the US from the UK except that in the midst of truly horrifying cruelty and hatred I've seen so many stories of people coming together to fight for each other and care for their communities and that is incredible

New writing routine is: wake up a bit early to write, struggle to wake up, open computer and stare at scrivener, run out of time and have to get ready for work 😂 gah

Every time I have a long train journey I think I'll get loads of writing done and then inevitably don't because it's cramped and there are people near me which apparently turns off my creative mind entirely but I did manage 4 handwritten pages in an 8 hour journey. Unsure if that's a win

I've managed roughly four sentences of writing and three submissions this week and got a couple of rejections which have felt particularly rough on top of a week of ✨anxiety✨. Petition to restart the year in Feb?

I think if I saw an otter on a walk I might actually explode with excitement how cool!!

Any hot tips for re-sparking creativity after a patch of anxiety or depression? Stick em below because I'm guessing it's not just me that struggles to pull myself back to a creative headspace

As a side note I requested a load of books in my library's ebook format and they can't get them as they aren't on the borrow box catalogue (trad pubbed and including even The Fifth Season) which surprised me. A shame more sff isn't even available as ebooks to the libraries

Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix. I've been in such a reading rut but so far this is working for me (high praise for my current state). Very readable whilst still being excellently written. I've bounced off so much this last year I'm pleased to be getting through it and enjoying.

First two reads of the year (both half finished):

The Potency of Ungovernable Impulses by Malka Older on audiobook. This series has been such a nice easy, comforting one for me and is perfect in the little mental health blip I'm having and has been getting me through the last week.

Why do people get so hyped about starting new things in January. It’s the middle of the cold season. Go hibernate.
