What are books if not extremely detailed outlines?

I’m about 75% done with my longest draft yet, feels good

My big delusional dream is getting my WIP to the final draft... and I'm not even done with the first! 😅

Expedition 33 is so good, deserves all the praise it’s received. Personally, it was one of the most important games I’ve ever played.

I know what you mean. Whenever I travel I usually think “I’m going to write & read so much!” but the disruption usually means that I might read a chapter and write a paragraph during my trip. 😆

The daily grind of writing is really where it's all at. It can be tedious, but it is so worth it in the end and you have a finished book. Whether you're an author who enjoys writing or an author who enjoys having written, the daily grind is where everything lies.

I want to write a book where the tension is cranked up so much that it feels like the book itself is about to rip itself apart under all of it.

I'm 120k words into my WIP, I have around 40k to 60k words left, it seems like a lot to go but I can see the end in sight. Just gotta keep writing away! 👨‍💻

I’ve read John Dies at the End by the same author and am looking forward to this book! Need to get around to the rest of the John Dies series too

I’m kind of between books right now but I’m leaning towards “I’m Starting to Worry About this Black Box of Doom” by Jason Pargin

One of my more embarrassing aspects of being a writer is that I'm terrible at capturing ideas. Like I can never find a system that just works with my brain. 😅

Me: I will not buy any more books until I clear my TBR.

My brain: I will purchase more books to add to my TBR.

Me: 🙃💸

It's been quite a challenge #writing an MC who refuses to introspect, grow & take direct action. I set out on this project with that goal in mind, but it has made writing scenes where she interacts with others challenging. A departure from my usual stories where my MCs like to talk and take action.

Had an idea for my next book after I finish my WIP and my brain immediately thought "you know, this could make a good walking-sim / adventure style game!" and I had to push those thoughts aside. I don't have the time or money right now to learn game design 😄

Must avoid the urge to buy a high powered laptop and pick up game design as another creative outlet...

I don't know why my brain feel so apprehensive about writing short stories. Like it's completely fine with writing novels (as my 115k words & counting project shows), but short stories - ironically - intimidate me. Any other writers out there like this?

At least something good came out of that stressful job! 🤣

Thanks to trying to have an in-universe excuse to have one of my favorite tropes in my story I found the theme that fits it so perfectly! 3/3

Not long after I started the story I realized that the theme of my story is how some people feel as if their roles in life contradict their identity, & that my main character has been beaten down by being forced into so many roles that she literally has no idea what her identity really is. 2/3

I was trying to find an in-universe reason why my MC is unnamed & it came to me that she not only forgets the concepts of names shortly before the story, but is incapable of even comprehending how one word can represent an entire person. She sees herself & others only as their current roles. 1/3

My current WIP is basically a long winded metaphor for how I felt at my last job. 😅

Also my main character is is an engineer now in a non-engineer role, much like how I recently transitioned from engineering to project management (but unlike her, I changed roles by choice).

Being well-read in your exact publishing genre/subgenre is very important. This reading informs you what your 'best' readers are reading now and will have read before they discover your novel. Readers have expectations groomed by the books they read.

When #writing you might find that the story is going in a direction you didn't intend. If it's interesting to you, then do not fret, keep on going and see where it ends up. If it isn't, or if it contradicts your themes or characters, do not feel married to it, but feel free to abandon that direction

Been working through my first draft since spring. For some reason this project just keeps growing and growing, seems inescapable (in a good way) 😅

Last week I completed 90 consecutive days of writing. Decided to take the rest of the week off after hitting that milestone. Let me tell you, not writing after writing for so long felt like something was missing from my life.

Today I resumed my day writing practice and I feel much more whole 😌

This week’s flavor of writer’s block: I have a pretty solid idea of the internal journey that lies ahead for my MC, even a decent idea of the external journey, but I’m not entirely clear on what “set pieces” it should play out on. As a writer who likes visuals this is very important to me. #writing

Idk what your character’s personality is like but honestly a teen saying “perhaps” makes a lot of sense. After all during your teen years there’s a lot of confusion as you’re growing so a teen saying it seems reasonable (source: was a confused teen once 😄)

I went to an indie wrestling show. The crowd was sizable but not huge, yet that didn’t stop the performers from giving it their all. From the set to selling the fights, the whole thing was an inspiring passion project.

Always create for yourself first no matter the size of the audience.

My main character says “perhaps” so many times 😅
