There is no metric of success you have to achieve to call yourself a ‘true’ woman. There are things you may want to do that make it easier for you to be legible as a woman to others, and to relieve dysphoria/bring euphoria, but at the point zero you are a woman. You are some woman.
There may be things you want to do to improve your quality of life/live in the body that suits you, i.e., HRT, or surgery, or dressing a certain way. You deserve to have access to these things, because you deserve to be a woman who is happy.
But you are already a woman. You are not an interloper.
You want to be That Bitch? You are. You want to be super cute? You are. You are inherently deserving of calling yourself a bonafide full fledged woman. You don’t have to DO anything to BE a woman.
It does not matter what you look like, what you sound like, what you ate yesterday for breakfast, whatever. If you want to be a woman, congrats: You are one. You did it. No one can take this from you even if they try (I know they try). You Are.
No harm to a woman benefits other women, and that includes harm done to yourself. Full stop.
It is actually way better for other women if you love yourself, especially loving yourself as a human, imperfect, flawed, in-progress, whatever. Putting other women on pedestals deprives them of internality. Seeing yourself as in community with them breeds support & nourishes them.
I don’t like phrasing things this way because I don’t want to trigger guilt in those who are already having a hard time, but it is the plainest way I can put it. Either all of us, or none of us. You can’t hurt yourself on behalf of womankind with the tools that hurt women. You gotta self-love.
