Man it sure would be a pity if people flooded J.K. Rowling's hate fund with fake applications, I hope no one does that.

A good article overall, but Sufjan Stevens absolutely does not belong in this company.

"These boys may have been vulnerable and open with their feelings, but those feelings tended toward entitlement to the love of the women in their lives, and anger when those women didn't play the roles as written for them." perfect encapsulation of this era

‘Deeply distressing for all of us’: families react to Girlguiding’s trans exclusion From September, trans girls, and young trans women who volunteer, will have to hand in their UK memberships

“This didn’t start in Girlguiding headquarters and it won’t finish in Girlguiding headquarters so we do want to make it clear to the government that they absolutely need to step in…

“…organisations that want to be inclusive are being attacked with legal threat after legal threat”

This obsession for American pickup trucks on UK roads is insane. Dave, you live on a fucking estate in Doncaster not on the prairies of Montana. Tax the bastards to oblivion

I am not in any way arguing that literacy in America isn’t in an awful state, but worth noting this as a zombie statistic: the study cited explicitly states it is not equatable to grade level, some foundation made the analogy at some point, and now it gets cited as what the study actually says.

There are so many but this one, when I first saw it, prompted a fit of hysterics that lasted for about five or six hours. Cried laughing every time I thought about it. Good times

Who when offered the chance to go to the moon and have guaranteed safe return would say nope, I would prefer to never have that experience? 49% of Britons apparently.

Kanye West being booked to headline Wireless Fest on all three nights feels like a major and utterly grim cultural shift. Ten years ago, a huge artist who recorded and released a tune called “Heil H*tler” would have gone to the wilderness and stayed there. But he has been welcomed back in through the front door. And this is on the heads of the festival organisers, each of whom should be publicly grilled about this choice. Indulgence of anti-Semitism is one of the early warning signs of the return of old horrors, and it doesn’t get more indulgent than this.

Always hate when people use ‘emperor’s new clothes’ in relation to music/film etc.

The implication is that you’re the only one wise enough to see something is bad, and everyone else is fooled or lying.

The reality is you just don’t like something that some other people genuinely like.

As #THETENX5 draws to a close, a playlist of my 100 selections (50 Main and 50 HMs) should anyone be interested.

How can you say British shouldn't call chattel slavery a crime against humanity because technically Britain stopped it. But Britain started it?? If I stop drowning cats does that mean it's OK that I drowned all those cats??

I do think this is true. I'm often guilty myself of underplaying what the work I do looks like or how much time and effort it takes. Research isn't 'just reading' or a question of sucking up summaries others have created. It's knowledge creation.

So let me go through the process with an example 1/
