I'm proud to introduce two resolutions calling on NYS to take climate action 💪🏽: one making packaging producers pay for recycling and the other demanding NYS restrict Con Ed’s proposal to limit battery energy storage systems in NYC.

Three years ago we passed the Zero Waste Act, committing the city to ambitious environmental goals.

With the passage of my bill, Intro 355, every city agency must now compost their organic waste, just like everyday New Yorkers already do.

The numbers are in and they are damning: 62% of NYers can’t afford to live here. The median white household holds 15x the wealth of the median Black household.

The True Cost of Living report & Racial Equity Plan show the affordability crisis is a racial justice crisis.

Millions of NYC workers are working 2-3 jobs and still can’t afford rent. Record homelessness. Historic poverty. And a $17/hr minimum wage that doesn’t cut it.

My bill, #30ForOurCity, would create a $30/hr min wage by 2030.

Thanks @msainato.bsky.social & @theguardian.com for telling this story!

Yesterday we celebrated @velazquez.house.gov $1.1M investment in District 37's future!

$250K to support BACDYS' critical community development work & $850K for renovating Liberty Avenue Plaza. This guarantees our communities have the resources and a public plaza they deserve!

When budgets are starved, agencies can't recruit talent, enforce the law, or meet their legal mandates.

As we negotiate a final city budget, we cannot balance the books by sidelining New Yorkers’ civil rights.

ICYMI: I chaired last week’s Civil & Human Rights preliminary budget hearing.

The message was clear: the agencies responsible for protecting NYers from discrimination & advancing racial equity are being chronically underfunded, weakening enforcement when people need it most.

I commend Mayor Mamdani for delivering this huge win for working families in our district! 🙌🏽

I'm proud that our very own Community School District 23, serving Canarsie, Brownsville, and Ocean Hill, will be among the first to receive free 2K seats this fall.

This morning, I chaired my first hearing as Chair of the Committee on Civil and Human Rights focused on budgeting for equity.

It remains unclear and unlikely that the FY27 budget will be informed by the Racial Equity Plans, as required by our city's charter.

How house flipping reduces affordability in NYC neighborhoods of color A state law would impose a steep tax on quick flips.

Over 200,000 Black New Yorkers have left NYC in the last 20 years due to rising housing costs. Toxic home flipping, concentrated in Black neighborhoods, fuels displacement by driving up prices, pressuring homeowners, and pricing out first-time buyers. www.brickunderground.com/sell/pratt-c...

Yesterday, I reintroduced Reso 326 in support of the End Toxic Home Flipping Act by @catalinacruzny.bsky.social & @salazarsenate.bsky.social. Along with members of the NYC Council's Black Caucus, I sent a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul urging her to support the bill.

Lawsuit asks court to prod Mayor Adams on long-overdue racial equity plan for NYC Voters approved a city charter change calling for the report to address disparities following racial justice protests across New York City and the nation in 2020.

Eric Adams failed to produce the legally required Racial Equity Plans that New Yorkers voted for in 2022. Without a plan, the Council seeks to understand how the new administration will address racial equity in this year’s budget. gothamist.com/news/lawsuit...

Mayor Mamdani Announces Major Expansion of Protected Time Off for 4.3 Million Workers The Mayor and DCWP celebrated the expansion of the City’s Protected Time Off Law.

Workers can also take more time off to attend public benefits hearings, address workplace violence, or go to housing court without the fear of retaliation or being fired. tinyurl.com/LL145NYC

ICYMI: my bill, LL 145, is now in effect!

Over 4M workers now have 32 new hours of protected time off to care for themselves & loved ones.

No one should choose between family and their job. That’s not the city we believe in.

This is what dignity for working people looks like.
