MAG's response to the news that the defence ministers of Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have recommended their withdrawal from the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention, also known as the Ottawa Convention:

In December 2024, the Commander of the Estonian Defence Force stated that there was no need for the country to leave the Ottawa Convention and that there are effective alternatives to the use of landmines. Not all options should be on the table for defense, and some lines must never be crossed. Just as nations reject biological and chemical weapons, we must continue to reject anti-personnel #mines.

As the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council takes place this week, MAG has published a working paper examining how mine action operations can protect & fulfil the human rights of millions still living in areas affected by unexploded bombs.
