Oil industry leaders are putting economy, environment at risk, says former minister Catherine McKenna Oil and gas production only sector in Canada to increase greenhouse gas emissions in 2024, inventory shows

"(Here in Canada) oil and gas, which is largely foreign-owned, largely U.S.-owned, aren’t doing their part. (Instead)...increasing our emissions and ...demanding that Canadian taxpayers pay the bill for cleaning up the pollution they cause and building pipelines they won’t risk their own money on.”

It Was on Your Table Every Morning Growing Up. It’s Dying Before Our Eyes. No One Wants to Face It. The powerhouse of American citrus is suffering a brutal decline. Everyone has a theory about why.

This is a nightmare: the destruction of Florida's orange industry. Tariffs, drought, deep freezes and a bacteria that is destroying the trees. They have lost 95% of production since 2003.
3/4s of growers are out of business. This is the dangerous eco-future staring us.

The only smart economic choice in 2026 is “no new fossil fuel infrastructure and rapidly phasing out current uses.” #cdnpoli

If oil prices remain at current levels for the next 12 months, the Canadian oil industry is on track to make $90bn in profits, which is $60bn more than it would have earned without the war...Applying 15% rate on excess profits of oil industry could generate $9 billion over the next 12 months. ⬇️

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

The Corpus Christi Water Crisis Isn't Exceptional. It's Early. When drought cycles outpace infrastructure planning, a water emergency is not a surprise—it’s a forecast.

Nice commentary on climate change planning. “The climate does not negotiate with infrastructure timelines. In Corpus Christi, the forecast arrived before the infrastructure did. Other Texas cities are likely to encounter the same alignment problem as their reservoirs decline.”

How many times can we “obliterate “ Iran’s nuclear capabilities?

How many years will Iran be “weeks away” from attacking the U.S.?

How many wars can Netanyahu get us into?

How many centuries will countries continue fighting religious wars?

How many trillions must be spent to feed the military industrial complex?

How many innocent men, women and children must be killed and displaced from their homes?

END THIS WAR NOW

Today is #WorldClimateDay. Canada can’t fight the climate crisis while building new fossil fuel pipelines. A new Alberta oil pipeline would be disastrous. 📢 Tell the federal government to reject Alberta’s oil pipeline ploy. dsfdn.org/TellPMReject...

There’s $107 billion warehoused in the private foundations of Canada’s richest families. At least half of that should have been paid in taxes.

Instead, it’s funneled to billionaires’ vanity projects: well-endowed universities and Israeli institutions, write @lindamcquaig.bsky.social & Neil Brooks.

It is not great, nor good. The only way for Canada to fight the US-trump-regime is to strengthen and affirm rights, to divorce ourselves from the toxic oil industry which has poisoned our democracy, and to stand firm for the rule of law in the world and at home.

For those who have forgotten the past 40 years:

Tax cuts for the rich
...don’t trickle down

Boosting military spending
...doesn’t bring peace

Slashing regulations
...doesn’t create jobs

Folks, we’ve seen this all before.

Trump's war on Iran hasn't altered Canada's cost of making gas — at all. So why are we being hosed at the pumps? Policy choices, not market forces of a war halfway around the world, explain the spike in prices, writes Jim Stanford, leading to unnecessary economy-wide inflation and higher interest rates.

The gas in those pumps was refined weeks ago, from oil extracted months ago, none of which came through the Straits of Hormuz. So why does it cost 15c more per litre than it did LAST Friday? I ask why, in

Unlike previous oil wars renewable energy is now available at scale. It's distributed, diversified and resilient. And solar panels don’t blow up; once they're in place you don’t need ships to constantly feed them to make energy.

The sun is looking like a pretty stable energy source right now.

What you have to understand is that Carbon Capture and Storage is driven not by environmental concerns but by fossil fuel industry demands. It provides both a new revenue stream (at our expense) and the mother of all greenwashing schemes. Whether it works or not (it doesn't) is entirely irrelevant.

How Canada’s Middle-Class Housing Crisis Is Undermining Its Future Why pricing out young families is weakening productivity, entrepreneurship, and social cohesion.

Pretty extensive roundup of research about how the housing crisis is obstructing other broadly uncontroversial policy goals. But I do feel a bit like I'm taking crazy pills that this is even necessary. www.missingmiddleinitiative.ca/p/how-canada...
