Dave Marshall with Cannondale (flat tire) bike on MBTA train
Biking Boston since 1980. Comic artist, designer, developer. On March 5th I hit a pothole in Kenmore Square and fractured both tibial plateaus. Five weeks in rehab. Facing eviction from my home of 17 years.
I don't ask for help easily. I'm asking now.

Are folks still using Starter Packs? Haven't seen this in the feed for a hot minute.
(Regardless, who are we missing on this list?)

I'm one of those trans women. I worked ground ops for Artemis I.
I am torn between celebrating the success of my friends and peers and grieving how my dream of working for NASA was shattered by hateful assholes in Tallahassee

I'm so sorry, Alex. The work you do is meaningful to people in a lot of ways you probably aren't even privy to. When things are at their hardest I try and remind myself that at least it's way more likely they'll get better than get worse, and I really hope things start looking up for you soon.

Coloring pencil illustration of the cover of the graphic memoir "Souvenir" by Sara L. Jewell, on a sketching table covered in markers, bits of paper, and coloring pencils.
Today marks one year of SOUVENIR
If you read, bought, reviewed, flipped through, reposted, shared or talked to me about this book, THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. It means the world every time Souvenir finds a new reader.

Title of the book "Souvenir" inscribed in bubble letters on a page of toned paper in ink and white coloring pencil.
I'm so glad I got the chance to make and share something that I wrote and drew with my own two hands, about real human experiences. A robot could never.
This book would never have been possible without the fine folks over at @fieldmouse.press - I'm so grateful!

Same sentiment imo as “don’t worry about AI, I think people will always make art ❤️” like cool but also I have spent twenty years building a career actually and I have bills

If there is a point to being human, it probably is something stupid like writing poems and songs. So go write your book. Do your part.

it can't tell if the output is true because *it has no concept of truth*. The only thing it "knows" is "this output is correlated"
It is structurally indifferent to truth

I think it's pretty important to understand that algorithmically-run platforms have long understood anger and argument drives much more engagement than just showing you stuff you like, and if you find yourself being made to despair at what a platform shows you, that is the system working as intended

One of the crimes of AI has been the destruction of the beautiful "my nephew made this logo for me on his computer!" energy from all the hyper-local plumbers and taco shops. AI slop on white work vans is a crime against humanity.

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:
The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same...
- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist
Thinking about this quote from Persepolis creator Marjane Satrapi again.
