In general my church did a lot of things right, but that’s definitely something that sticks out to me as abnormally weird. The audience was little kids *and adults,* by the way, so it’s not like there wasn’t anyone in the audience who would get the subtext.

Man that script was kinky as hell. On multiple occasions the phrase ”clean, cuddly feet” was used, the whole idea of going out in service to others was done through this weird lens of being willing to humiliate yourself, *and* we had to be barefoot on-stage. As teens, we read between the lines.

Something I occasionally think about:

I was an actor in my church’s kids’ theatre, right? One day we (we were teens at the time) were doing a little skit for the little kids and the lesson was about offering service to others based off the story of Jesus cleaning the people’s feet.
