It is the third time Nigeria will claim back to back wins, after Rashidi Yekini and Emmanuel Amuneke (1993, 1994); Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba (1996, 1997).
This takes Nigeria’s wins to 7 in total

AND NEW!!! Gukesh D is the new World chess champion. And the youngest ever! I love Ding, but he did not do much for chess in his time as champion, unfortunately. Gukesh, like Magnus before, will be a much better representative for chess

People see Iwobi performing for Fulham and wonder why that doesn’t translate to the Super Eagles. It does. Y’all just don’t see it. Iwobi is a “glue guy”. He makes it all work. Go back and watch him again and see how much work he puts in game by game

You and me both. A clear-headed Ding, playing with no pressure, can get this done

Ding Liren takes Game 1. Played some phenomenal chess. Very relaxed (well, until close to the end) and looked very much like the Ding of old. Gukesh at the looked crushed

It’s not. That’s why I felt it was a good angle of their story this season to explore in this article
