Setting up an account on Hey.Cafe, figured I would drop into Bluesky for the first time in a millennium. Cue the long frustration of forgetting, resetting, and promptly losing new passwords left, right, and centre. *sigh*
Being not-social on social media is so much simpler, yo.

Some of us are still going to die angry about the burning of the library of Alexandria.
There it is
GODDAMNIT JAMES.
I quite concur. There is no room at the inn for you.
The Internet Archive has to date downloaded 500 terabytes of US government websites, which it crawls at the end of every presidential term. The whole archive is fully searchable. This effort's housed by a donation-funded nonprofit, not a branch of the US government. blog.archive.org/2024/05/08/e...
The road to fascism is paved with the bodies of the marginalized people who were ignored after being told they were overreacting.
The CDC is removing data sets that researchers widely rely upon because they include information on sexual orientation and gender identity. “It feels like they’re trying to will us out of existence,” one researcher tells @theresagaff.bsky.social:

As the OP notes the ban will cost the Dems the GenZ/younger Millenial vote for a long time, but implications are far greater than that. While it comes @end of a Dem govt, it effectively supports MAGA/Far-Right agenda of destroying where marginalized individuals and communities survive and thrive.
Note to Self: Pee first.
I've been bingewatching @criticalrole.bsky.social this year, and I'm finally hitting the final boss fight of Campaign 2 #TheMightyNein and the magic users are starting to get REEEEEEAAAAALLLY punchy with their spellcasting...
Whaddaya gonna do... people are gonna People.

Oh, look--it me. *sigh*
Endless flowers in a field of sage and short prairie grasses. Some mountains in the far far distance.
Somebody somewhere
Needs an endless field of flowers tonight

I loved it. She's almost on par with Anya Seton for exquisitely-researched historical novels (especially ones that seamlessly integrate with the modern world, a la Seton's Green Darkness). Almost.
Oh my God stop with the think pieces and conversations about the idea of Canada being the 51st state as a kind of reality instead of insane ramblings by a fascist jackass that must be fought against tooth and nail. Come the fuck on.
🚨IMPORTANT UPDATE 🚨
As the evolving fires in Los Angeles are directly impacting our cast and crew, we're taking a break from streaming this week with the intention of returning to Exandria next Thursday, January 16th.
The movie that was number one at the box office on your tenth birthday is how 2025 will turn out for you. I mean, maybe.
Back to the Future for me. Lol. Surely true but not very helpful.
An image of two versions of the original 1977 Star Wars film poster, featuring Luke, Leia, Darth and the droids in one, adding Obi wan Kenobi, Han Solo, and Chewbacca in the other.
Almost 58 years later, I still haven't decided which side influenced me more.
Viewing order according to "how many liberties did the director take with this version":
- Stratford Festival, 1987
- Branagh's adaptation
- Josie Rourke's David Tennant/Catherine Tate adaptation
- Joss Whedon's adaptation
- Stratford Festival, 2023
How do adult Theatre Kids spend NYE? 12 hours binge-watching 5 different productions of "Much Ado About Nothing," dissecting their various aspects for our own amusement!
(4yrs of COVID has made us all cautious re:crowded NYE events. A small cadre, Shakespeare & sushi? A fave gathering plan.)
Societies hate it when people in the masses discover they have the power of choice. I knew at 14 I would never want/have kids; even my mom, who encouraged me to believe I could do whatever I wanted, didn't believe me on that one. I have never regretted breaking so many old, unwelcomed patterns.
I fell off socials for a while as Life got end-of-year crunchy but this morning I'm pleasurescrolling BSky to remind myself there is still a world of beauty worth exploring (while everything here in North America insists on going to shit...). Thank you, purveyors of joy & delight!
Not that I will ever be able to afford to buy a house, let alone a $2mil one, but a built-in library would be MORE enticement to its charms, not a detraction!
Such a handsome Kitty, too!
United Health's stock prices for 4 December 2024, showing a rise of 0.92% for the day.
United Health's stock went up nearly 1% today after the assassination of their CEO. This is the market telling us that assassinating CEOs is good for the economy.
The free market has spoken.
@voiceofobrien.bsky.social The new take on the holiday season I didn't even know I needed. #CriticalRole
I enjoyed it tremendously as well. One for regular holiday rotation here :)
