Well over a year after designing it, it’s a genuine thrill to see Lorcana fans finding the mechanical themes baked into the upcoming Wilds Unknown. Without pushing into spoilers, I can say it’s the strong thematic combinations of mechanics and IPs that made the set so fun to build.
Plus…DRAFT!

Jarren Duran of the Red Sox flipped off a heckler in the stands yesterday after the attendee told him to kill himself.
Duran has been open in the past about his battle with depression and his suicide attempt. This is no joke.
Could he have ignored the heckler? Sure. But I don’t blame him one bit.
It’s been over a year since my departure from Lorcana, but today the main previews for the second set I led design on go live. Go check out the lorecast for Wilds Unknown.

25th NOW.
Woah. Watching the Red Sox/Cardinals game on Fox, and they just cut to a commercial break with the @decemberists.bsky.social ‘s Severed.
Did not have Colin Meloy on my baseball bingo card.
Connect to me here, I’ll DM you the server invitation.
If you’re ever interested in trying the card game out early as a playtester, we have a Discord server/community for that… 😁
The first book in Ryan’s series, Of Blood and Fire, is a totally digestible, quick (but rich and fulfilling) fantasy story. It’d been years since I’d really read anything in the genre, but it was a really good place to reintegrate myself into it all. The stories ramp up into “epic” territory fast.
The books have all been great so far, including the novellas that go between each of the main books. Ryan Cahill has turned out to be an awesome guy across the boards, and a lot of fun to work with on this project. (He enjoys nerdy board games too, which is often a pretty good litmus test.)
I’m about 10% of the way into the third novel that Dave Freeman and I are building a TCG for. Been listening to the audiobook, but that doesn’t help me with how to spell names and stuff.
This book is a behemoth, and the next one’s even bigger.
We showed our son (not quite 11 yo) Field of Dreams this morning and he loved it, so I guess we’re doing something right.
Dreamt last night that @gailsimone.bsky.social was standing in my kitchen, talking with my wife about their various craft projects and drinking tea.
I asked Gail if she’d microwaved it, but she just made jokes that didn’t tell me if she really does that or just gives Brits a hard time about it.
Like, NOTHING there makes any coherent sense, and I’m all for it.
When you think about it, the Easter story does feature an escape room, right?
My kid wants an egg hunt tomorrow. He’s getting nine-plus puzzles, made by me, to solve along the way. Come check them out!

Still playing Warhammer? What’s your army?
Something I should have let go of a long time ago. It’s emotional, but it’s the right thing to do. No more HP on my resume.

Same. Manchester native.
Wait, you’re a UConn fan too?
Question for the tabletop gamer crowd: does anyone know of any TCGs they’d consider a “point salad” game?
(And no, AEG’ Point Salad card games don’t count.)
Given that I’m diabetic and shouldn’t have eaten half of what was in that plate, I think my doctor would have some words about the 9-9-9 if I were to try. 😆

OPENING DAY FOR THE SOX!!!
Today on the DiscoCandybar blog, I tell some of the backstory of making a Trading Card Game about an even bigger story.

Gorgeous weather here in the Seattle ‘burbs today. If it were a little warmer out, I’d absolutely be hanging out on the deck.
In this case, not knowing what to say says pretty much everything: you are deeply empathetic. That’s a really solid sign of a good human being. Thank you for sharing.
With the edit we’re seeing putting the focus on how @chubicki.bsky.social was the driver on every tribal council vote so far, he’s got to be a final three player, right?
Right??

Snowy morning here in Seattle. And Smalls already had the day off, so he can’t actually call it a snow day.
