New study shows patients transported by the Melbourne Mobile Stroke Unit had:
✅ 2x better odds of full recovery
✅ ½ the mortality rate at 90–180 days
✅ Higher thrombectomy rates (40% vs. 23%)
But better outcomes came with higher costs (~$17,949 more per patient).

"a faecal immunochemical test-based programme was non-inferior to a colonoscopy-based programme for colorectal cancer-related mortality"
-so an easier test, among invitees, was as good as a more complex one. Excellent news for Australia's over 50s at-home, mail-in, faeces screening testing program.
Great example of why Victoria is one of the safest places in the world to suffer a Cardiac Arrest. Willing bystanders, the integrated GoodSam app and a ground breaking trial of the CellAED ultraportable AED #CallPushShock

A screening method that paired dogs with #AI was able to detect the odor of cancer carried on patients’ breaths. The canine-AI duo was both highly accurate and highly sensitive, successfully detecting four types of cancer in 94% of cases.

Respect for volunteers in experiments. Fascinating look back to the 1950s. One hopes they got informed consent. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...
Whether it's volunteering at a local school or taking soup to a sick neighbor, improving the welfare of others can also improve our own physical and mental health.

Fabulous work by the Ambulance Victoria team. Using video assisted triage to help them to deliver the right care at the right place and avoid unnecessary ambulance dispatch and transport. Great for patients and for the community

I’m trying to find education modules for emergency nurses working with mental health/illness/distress/AOD use in Australia - preferably in Victoria but keen to see what other states are doing too. Any leads for particularly excellent ones appreciated!
