Alex Pretti, the man killed by federal agents today in Minneapolis, appears to have been a registered nurse, an athlete, a son and a brother, with ties to Colorado and Wisconsin.
Here is a photo he used for several accounts.

I can't be here right now because my words are not safe for the public. Leaving this here, going to go donate and check on my friends.

To those blaming Walz for not mobilizing the Guard, he did that six days ago. I have to say it's disturbing to see people angry at Walz instead of the government agents that just executed a man. As though we should all be experts about what to do when a secret police force invades an American city.
I have watched the video of today’s murder several times and I am here to assure you that there were several agents restraining the victim when he was shot, and there is no way they were worried he was going to shoot one. Even if he had a gun, and I think that’s not true, he was not free to use it.
Had an incredibly invigorating discussion of @laprofelgp.bsky.social’s book Translating Blackness with my graduate students. These are the moments that keep me going.

Death toll is now 98. There had never been a tragedy like this in my native city in my lifetime. Mourning so many artists and dear ones. This is beyond sad. 😢
I’m so sorry. This is beyond heartbreaking.

Sweet and short piece in Vanity Fair on my book TO SAVE AND TO DESTROY: WRITING AS AN OTHER (released just about now). Not bad for a university press book of academic lectures on literature and otherness. 🔗 www.vanityfair.com/style/story/...
Felicidades Sharina! 🎉
You should see THE FISHBOWL (LA PECERA), a deeply moving and lyrical debut, set on the Puerto Rican island of Vieques, that reflects the collective impact of political violence through an individual struggle.
