HOME | Smidge Project SMIDGE is a Horizon Europe project analyzing online extremist narratives' impact on middle-aged individuals.

This is also really interesting - and the database, focused on the EU, seems to be freely available. It focuses on how Middle-Aged folks are using Social media.

> The controversy associated with the statement “Ada Lovelace was the first computer programmer” reveals more about modern attitudes towards women [than her] achievements. [Her 1843 algorithm] was so advanced, that it was still utilised in record-breaking computation of Bernoulli numbers in 2008.

A two-page spread from Muppet Magazine's Spring 1984 issue, entitled "Great Moments (and neat stuff) in Computer History." A short bio of Ada Lovelace is its first entry.

Meanwhile, the first place I learned about Ada Lovelace being the first computer programmer was...Muppet Magazine.

I don't know about you, but I trust Scooter's expertise on this. *nods firmly*

OMW back from #TakeBackTech and am newly inspired by the range of creative and highly active orgs and people who are fighting AI, tech fascism, and data centers in their towns. I do not regret to inform you, following Femi Taiwo, that we will win.

It's hard to articulate the level of anger & rage I have about watching this happen. I first saw weev doxx people I love *TWENTY* years ago. I spoke to founders of multiple social networks about the risk of these people over 15 years ago. I wrote about it all a dozen+ years ago. They let it happen.

Unhappy to report the phishing one is quickly becoming a real problem now. Why go to the trouble of social engineering when people will just give up their ID, financial info, biometrics, etc. to an AV portal? There's no standards so how can you differentiate a fake one from a real one?

It’s absolutely incredible that one of the largest Japanese-run Go servers, which has been running since 1992, is still accessed entirely via Telnet. And while most players use GUI clients that use Telnet under the hood, you can still connect manually and get ASCII graphics streamed to you

This is the issue with theoretical work these days. Data isn't collected as means unto itself unless we've lost the point of experiment & observation. Without explicit theory to house data it's meaningless. Duhem-Quine, underdetermination of theory of by data is lost on people.

Fascists will tell you that women shouldn't do science, that they're less good at it, and that they don't even like it. They should be at home tradwifing it up for some dude.🤡

Reality tells you that women are out here curing cancer.

I am so, SO sorry. I had to give up caffeine COMPLETELY for about a decade and it was a bad time. Honestly, you never get used to it. I am only JUST able to start having some caffeine sometimes in moderation, like, every other day or every two days.... I hope the same is on your path.

This is such a great article. Looking at what benchmarks ARE and what they actually measure is important. It's up there with self-certifications around quality and safety.

Warleigh Nature Reserve, Bath Bath's largest rewilding project has begun: Warleigh Nature Reserve. Right on the River Avon, and already full of beavers.

I am so pissed off that the press have completely ignored this crowdfunder. When we were trying to buy the land they were slathering all over posting about it, but when the government fucked us over and pulled their ~£0.5mn contribution, we’re just blanked now. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/warleigh-n...
