Just finished Kenneth Harl's illuminating Empires of the Steppes. It was a great introduction to the topic of nomadic peoples that also managed a surprising amount of depth in its 400-ish pages.

It's been over six months since I quit my job and besides some brief notes on some TTRPG concepts and trivia for the weekly movie night, I've written nothing. Weird feeling, ominous but also kinda freeing. I'm lucky to be in a place where I don't have to force myself to write things right now.

After 10 amazing years, today is my last day at theScore esports.

It's been an amazing ride, and I'm so grateful for the career I've had and the people I've met.

This isn't the ending that I would have chosen, but in this industry you don't always get to choose your ending.

Sean is like a brother to me, and the finest editor and writer I've ever worked with. He's brilliant, and well worth your time if you're hiring.

After a decade of working my dream job, it's over. I was laid off from theScore esports today. Gonna take some time to mourn and be offline. I'll probably have more thoughts later, but for now if you know anyone who needs a writer, producer, or video host, please let me know.

It’s been like a dream to get to cover the stuff I grew up watching and playing. And a massive thank you, above all, to the fans that made this work - and esports more generally - possible.

I plan to continue following a couple esports on my own time, but I’m not looking for work.

After nearly ten years at theScore esports, I’ve decided to focus on my family and become a stay-at-home Dad. There are too many people to thank directly, but to everyone who ever worked alongside me or who offered their time freely so we could speak -- thank you.

I can't personally generate a list of stuff atm, but wanted to mention that Jewel of Yavin (an Edge of the Empire pre-published adventure) has a Cloud Car race sequence and a lot of this stuff is potentially useful in your own game. My PCs enjoyed it when I ran it as written.

I feel exactly the same about this series. I see my friends lose like two weeks of their lives to it whenever it comes out but I could never really get into it.

FGC Locals (Public)

The big list of FGC locals now contains 530 total events, wow!

if your local isn't on here yet, leave comments on a new line with its info. If your local is closed, comment it as inactive under Status. If your local has a Bsky account, comment with that too. Thanks!

Interesting take. In the communities ofgames that I play that sort of straddle this line, I've seen the tension between people who are there to optimize literally everything and those who view the game as a kind of emergent experience that tells its own story.

GeoGuessr Esports Is Insane

If you're wondering where GeoGuessr came from and how its nascent esports scene works, well... I wrote and hosted this video!

Huge thanks to Mikael Falgard and Fau for speaking with me for this one. The goal was to give viewers an overview, I wrote it in two days.
