The sudden feeling that you've seen this fancy outfit before: the French call it déjà froufrou.

Saaaaame. My kiddos grew up listening to them and they're only...17 and 21. Oh fuck. ::stares blankly into space::

I started making charitable donations when I was in high school. The SPLC was the first organization I donated to, because I approve of their work. Alas, their work is to uncover all the things the current GOP wants to do.

I don't understand how parents don't know, but...I honestly cannot imagine any other reason I would forgo vaccination for my kids. (Other than, obviously, real medical reasons.)

How can autism be more terrifying than a dead kid??? Pardon me while I go hug my autistic kid now.

I definitely can't read that column, but...yes. There was a brilliant blog post some years ago that went through all the vaccine-preventable diseases and linked to photos and descriptions of what the disease did. I feel like a lot of parents might not realize how horrific Hib or pertussis can be.

We are safer today b/c of the work of civil rights groups like @splcenter.org which has helped uncover violent white supremacist & extremist movements. But as the Administration tries to undo these efforts & normalize extremism, this work is being criminalized. We will not be silent.

I'm glad this mom went ahead. I'm thrilled that this kiddo will be safe from more diseases. But I'm terrified by how many parents nationwide won't be swayed and how many doctors will give up or be *unable* to push the way ours does.

How many kids will die or be injured? Too damn many.

"I asked if they'd seen any side effects from the first, and she said no." He shook his head in total confusion.

He told her that if they decided not to, this would be their last day with the practice. "They went ahead because the husband didn't want to look for another pediatrician." We sighed.

We go to an EXTREMELY pro-vaccine pediatrician (which I'm sure surprises nobody who knows me) and he says even he has gotten a bit of pushback on vaccines from parents. I asked at Barak's appointment today and he said he just had a parent who hesitated. "This was the second dose!"

On behalf of the majority of the men I know...what the actual fuck? I know lots of men who had/have baby fever, who have fatherly feelings toward tons of kids who aren't biological theirs, etc. and so on.

Weirdly, I actually kinda liked it when I was a kid and only ate fish if it was canned tuna or lox. When I grew up and realized what *actual* fish tasted like, I became unable to tolerate gefilte fish ::shudders:: It smells like what happens when you microwave fish at the office. Blech.

I love reading acknowledgements because it's a moment of happiness, I think. If I liked the book, I like imagining the author surrounded by their community and everyone uplifting each other.

The fact that clients have found you that way makes me even happier to read acknowledgements ❤️

I personally think gefilte fish is the absolute worst Ashkenazi Jewish food. Feh. Whether it's the nasty jarred stuff (in aspic!) or the stuff you boil on the stove, it grosses me out. It smells funny and the texture and taste are...ick.

Ah yes, this has been me for the past few days and I'm really tired of it :( Hope the benzo does its job for a long time.

::cackles madly:: Truth hurts, doesn't it? Now pardon me while I go patch up the gaping wound in my chest...

Y'know, it's not often I say "oh hell, we're all going to die" and I'm not being sarcastic, but...

This feels like a bad idea that will have long essays written about it by anyone who doesn't drive on the highways and thus survives.

But Barak is Extremely Autistic and the idea of lying pains him. And he gets really upset and that makes it hard for him to think about ways around this.

Also, I'm irritated by "a personal narrative (which incorporates research)" and I would like to have a chat w/whoever created this curriculum.

I've told them that if they want to make something up, I would back them up to the teacher. If I have to go to the English teacher and swear that my kids tamed a lion in the circus, I will absolutely do that to protect them from having to bare their personal lives to everyone. I think Yael did that.

There is nothing in this world Barak hates more than writing exactly that and I don't blame him. I despise the English assignments that require you to talk about your personal life. For some people, that's easier, and offering the option is fine, but my kiddos HATE it.

Oh noooooo! Barak's English teacher is EXCITED to announce Q4's plan: "Write a personal narrative (which incorporates research) about an impactful and meaningful experience. Throughout this process, you will discuss the implications of your research on your personal growth and development."

We need, like, an activist knitting circle where we get together once a month and complain about a) knitting problems and b) activism problems. It feels like it would be very cathartic.

I hate Al and I refuse to use it

Peter, if you don't use Al a bunch of super rich men will lose a lot of money

I already said I hated Al Harry, you don't need to sell it to me

Trying to decide which yarn to switch to. I have a lovely complementary burgundy and gray (to go with red and blue), but it's fingering weight (likely) as opposed to worsted. I *think* I can pull it off by using 2 strands, but I have to turn the yarn into center pull first. To my trusty nostepinne!

TFW you misread the knitting pattern and cast off at like 2/3 of the length you actually needed. Oh and you don't have enough yarn to finish anyway.

The good news is the pattern allows for a yarn change at any point and I was already sewing some parts together. So this should be salvageable.

::eyeroll:: I mean, good news that they figured out the whole "coordination" thing, but once that's done, of course it's faster than a human. Duh. That's what happens when you don't get tired. The breathless reporting is a little weird.

Targets queer families and single parents and grandparents raising grandkids and giving the state the opportunity to take kids away or just punish "nontraditional" households when they feel like it. The gov is cordially invited to fuck *all* the way off. And then keep fucking off.

Feminists for ages: we are not just vaginas and baby making parts.

A trans woman enters the room.

Those same feminists: we are only vaginas and baby making parts.

Fucking clowns.

::sigh:: I'm going to be irked if I can't eat fresh peaches, let me tell you. At least this isn't "anaphylactic shock" allergy, because that would be much much worse. So I can test this with other foods that have no additives to see if it's the peaches.

3 days ago 1 0 1 0

The most likely culprit is the peach puree. Lemon juice? I was literally drinking lemonade as the reaction faded. The other possibilities are guar gum, carob bean gum, maybe the annatto color? I eat turmeric (coloring) all the time and I'm dubious pectin's the problem. But what do I know?

I'm choked up too. I had disagreements with Obama, sure, but he wasn't actively evil and corrupt and abusive. He made mistakes, but he was *trying* to be a decent human being. It's a low bar, but nobody in the current administration could come close to getting over it.
