Just the finalists not the winners

Almost everyone hates to be lectured at but Dems love to lecture so doing it to their own coalition is seen as a safe outlet for this desire (it’s not safe)

These big boys are driving up food costs for families by gorging on salmon. I’m doing something about it

Vibecession : Recession :: Placebo : Treatment
Placebo can modify physiology without therapeutic intervention, similarly the vibecession can be ‘real’ in the absence of poor economic data
Why does Jesus look like Jared Leto
And even though I’m not nearly as well off as any of these people, I align much more with the arts route. I’m working in a dull megacorp job so my kids don’t have to do the same. I fully admit I’m a snob in this point.
But there’s definitely a tier adjacent (above?) that, the arts route, that’s like: I didn’t grind away in business for you to have to waste your life doing the same
Most of these kids have parents who got wealthy through professional work and the expectation is that they’ll do the same: go to a fancy college and use your connections to get a high paying job in finance or tech
On the topic of Geese, nepo babies, viral culture, etc., and as the parent of teens who interact with a lot of privileged kids, it’s interesting to see the bifurcation of which kids that go the professional route vs. the arts route
90s sellout culture is back baby. Oh lots of people like that? Here’s why that’s bad actually
‘The dummies don’t know how good they have it’ undercurrent of this discourse coming from our technocrats is irritating. Yes we want things to continue to get better and are unsatisfied if they don’t, that’s progress, supposedly a cornerstone of democratic politics
Just speaking for myself, it’s the precarity of life in the US that makes things feel bad even though I recognize I make good money and have healthy savings that make me better off than most
Aside from whether they can do anything, don’t these guys ever get upset about anything at all, like they’d rather die than have to even pretend to care
Just broadly the left has put too much store in the idea that people’s individual psychology can explain societal power and unfortunately it’s pretty useless for that
Love the savvy takes that are like:
*eyerolls* he’s not actually going to use a nuke, dummy *eyerolls*
Good news, for those who think that is the most important takeaway right now, because the typical American has no idea what’s going on and really doesn’t care
The free part of Mamdani’s bus plan was as much or more of a political statement as a policy one and technocrats not understanding that is part of the problem with dems flaccid approach to change
It is on, hate to say it, threads
‘Big Metafilter’ is the perfect way to describe this place
Something we’ve lost in the current attention economy is the ability to say that something can be both unequivocally wrong and not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things
This plus the protests have been much bigger and broader so those who may have participated in campus protests have been incorporated.
A more interesting question is: where were all the normies a couple of years ago when only campus protests were happening?
And they haven’t given a lick of thought as to what the transaction might entail
Everything else aside, 27 is not extremely young, it’s a full grown ass adult, old enough to be a professor
As a young Xer borderline millennial there weren’t many paths to get rich that didn’t involve lots of schooling. Understandable and not irrational to me that high paying software dev jobs, then later influencing and crypto, has made the economy feel unfair to young people even if they are better off
Until I put a stop to it, my mom would send me money to buy and wrap the gifts, from her to my kids, because ‘it’s just easier that way’ so this would have been a big step up for me
People are sick of this guy for many reasons, they just needed a place to channel it
The thing I don’t get is why they keep using his hand when they could place an IV in much less visible places
odd that this group focuses so heavily on the electoralism of !vote! while also arguing it’s not a candidate’s job to motivate people to do so
Threads is so unhinged I’ve sort of come to appreciate it but you can’t make fun of it because it’s like punching an 8 year old
