This was a fantastic launch for @aft.org @aaup.org and @afthighered.bsky.social in Austin with Texas AFT-AAUP! LFG. College4All
Today, the AAUP & @aft.org launched our national policy platform to win back an American higher education system that protects the freedom to teach & learn & strengthens our democracy.

Thank you @rweingarten.bsky.social for joining us in Texas and supporting us in the fight to protect public education. Texas students deserve the #FreedomtoLearn! 👏👏
“They tried to weaken higher education, but instead they built a movement to fight for the future...
They can attack our institutions, but they cannot stop our movement….We will not stop until we have the higher education system and the democracy we all deserve.”
— Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
When we fight together, we win! Congrats!
Big news out of Maryland!
Beginning July 1st, thousands of non-tenure-track faculty in Maryland will have collective bargaining rights.

Huge thanks to @aaup.org, @aft.org, & @aftmaryland.bsky.social for helping us pass this historic legislation!
WE DID IT!
Our illegal union @uam-umd.bsky.social is a lot less illegal today. 12,000 contingent faculty in MD just won the right to collectively bargain. Life-changing win for teachers and students. Only happened bc thousands of people worked together to beat our bosses in the statehouse.
❤️💯 this whole 🔥 thread!
P.S. Don’t forget to get your AAUP-AFT United Academics Local 6741 swag so everyone knows AAUP-AFT shows up when people are under attack in our local and global communities. Order here: shop.worxprinting.coop/collections/...

Then, after this weekend, take the next step and get involved in your union’s organizing efforts to make sure we have “No Kings! No Wars! No ICE!” in the U.S.
If you want to say “enough!”—“¡basta!”—to the dangerous directions Trump and his team are leading our country, come out this Saturday with your fellow AAUP-AFT United Academics Local 6741 colleagues from across the country to say:
No Kings! No Wars! No ICE!
Now, he has launched a disastrous illegal war in Iran while continuing to supply weapons to Israel for its ongoing attacks on Lebanon and Palestine. Free and fair elections seem to be his team’s next target.
....leading to the separation of families, pervasive fear, and numerous deaths—and used his cruel and ironically named “Big Beautiful Bill” to pay for huge tax breaks for the richest Americans and big corporations by slashing funding for healthcare, food assistance, and educational funding.
Since Trump took office, however, all of these trends have been hypercharged. He has weaponized the administrative state and federal funding to attack our universities and DEI programs. He has ordered ICE into our communities to arrest and terrorize our immigrant neighbors...
Even before Trump took office, higher education was under sharp attack, life in most cities was becoming unaffordable, ICE was harassing and deporting large numbers of our immigrant neighbors, and our government was engaged in and/or funding illegal wars throughout the world.
We are at one of those inflection points in our country’s history that future generations will look back on and ask “what did you do when…?”
We should not kid ourselves: many of the odious trends we are fighting back against now were not exclusively Trump’s creation.
On Saturday, come out with your fellow @aaup.org- @aft.org United Academics Local 6741 colleagues from across the country to say:
No Kings. No Wars. No ICE!

Just joined the @debtcollective.bsky.social. Already a member of @aaup.org. Time to fight to save this thing we call education. And make it affordable and just.
This is why we organize. This is why we fight.
