Try 'War of the Gods' by Poul Anderson. When I read Gaiman's 'American Gods' some of the protagonist's tale felt familiar. 4 years before Gaiman's book, Poul Anderson released a similar novel about the Norse Pantheon. Such a well-written novel!

Decided to open up and start adding people since many are migrating over from FB. Like the setup so far. Much better than Twitter with little trolls.
