The same property tax caps which prevent the middle class from being extorted by government are the very same caps which force the middle class to subsidize the wealthy.

Or, have every State in the Union which cares at all immediately call an Article V Convention. Our new July 4th.
Digestible explainer for how LVT does not get passed on to tenants/consumers.

2 things Democrats haven't leaned into:
1. Republicans have QUORUM even without the Democrats. Business can still be conducted, even if the things which require "61" might not get passed.
2. Anyone still getting paid should be showing up to work. Make ARTICLE V CONVENTIONs a shutdown tradition.
So true. Can confirm.
I don't care which side of the aisle you're on. When you threaten a government shutdown, you're not striking to improve your working conditions. You're striking because you're not getting your way. Go invoke an Article V Convention. Show up SOMEWHERE and DO YOUR JOB.
As China halts U.S. soybean imports for Argentinian ones, American farmers face frustration over a U.S. bailout for Argentina's economy. According to Redfin, this is impacting housing, with 2 in 5 homes in Des Moines & Omaha seeing price drops—double the national rate.
They just want your meth recipe.

George fan hearing about Mamdani-
“You know who else ran for mayor of New York on a pro-worker platform and was opposed by a corrupt Democratic Party?”
Have you ever wondered why Georgists use the 🔰 mark? It's originally a Japanese symbol, and I think we would do well as a movement to embody its deeper meanings.

If they can't spare 2 minutes, they're not serious. Sorry.
And no, the LVT doesn't get passed on to tenants. That might take a little longer to understand tho.

Which book was the first to be read in its entirety into the Congressional Record?
The Earth belongs to everyone.
We have a right to take up space.
As long as there are empty plots of land ... As long as there are empty rooms in empty houses ... No one should be involuntarily homeless.
Increase the holding costs of underutilized land to reveal and unlock its hidden capacity.
Awesome, thanks! 👍🏻
True, but I mostly mention this because you mentioned that Georgists rarely engage with macroeconomic concepts and rarely discuss interest across ten years of recent publications, which is so interesting -- that you, Gene, and I have had such different experiences of the same movement.
Yes, it sounds like a topic which gets revisited in the podcast, but the search function on the website didn't pull up relevant episodes for me. Maybe I'll see if I can reach out to Gene for those links. 👍🏻
Thank you again and looking forward to your next chat with Gene.
George himself wrote about interest, monetary policy, and many other macroeconomic concepts. After Progress & Poverty, he wrote several other books. One of them was Protection & Free Trade. Another one was The Science of Political Economy, which was unfinished and published after George died.
Georgism is more than the LVT. Georgists seek to examine all government-granted privileges and weigh their positive and negative impacts on the communities they are implemented in and their net effect.
Thank you for highlighting all the parts of Georgism you support and sorry that many of the Georgists around you come off like religious fanatics. 🙃 I think one of the benefits of Georgism is that it explains economics to non-economists in a much more relatable way than learning economics in school.

Your leaders are finally taking The #HousingCrisis seriously when they bravely propose #LVT!

Newspaper clipping reads: "What has he ever done for labor? Possibly some little things called for by organized labor, and he has appointed a lot of labor leaders to little positions, earning their support. Labor is the creator of all wealth; labor is the one thing that has no little favors to ask. It is monopoly that wants protection. But labor -- labor wants only justice; labor wants only fair play. What we want for labor is not such miserable and shameful laws as those which meet men seeking our shores and turn them back again; men who come here to this country to work, as our fathers came. The great movement for labor is along the line of taxation."
Labor need not ask for favors and protection, as monopolists do. Labor wants only justice! Labor wants only fair play!
