There’s of course foundational limits (ie: dividing by zero) but taking the square root of a negative number has had such an insane & echelonic effect on the whole field

Complex numbers in general are just so damn bizarre and fascinating. They are the cornerstone of algebra in that they close the entire ring, making expressions of all kinds fluent without roadblocks

Fucking crazy how raising e to a lateral/“imaginary” number creates a sine wave

I have 3 versions of Win11 that I downloaded from Microsoft over the past few years. Each version is more invasive than the previous. The latest (25H2) forces you to create an Outlook email account before it will proceed with installation. I now only install Linux on friends and family's machines.

World governments self-iterate via subdivisions, i.e. the US’ federal -> state -> county -> locality structure. This iterative structure *is* what defines a complex society.

I have far more to say about this but I’m gonna cut it here. I hope someone reads this?

But this concept can take us further:

Every skill is learned through multiple attempts, be that playing an instrument, riding a bike, working out, etc.

“practice makes perfect” is just a special case of “iteration is the solution to chaos.”

So, iteration is the definition of order.

Because life is an inherently ordered product of free energy from the sun, it is therefore the antithesis of chaos.

So, life minimizes entropy by nature.

The answer lies in the commonality between diverse examples of order: fractal geometry, complex societal structures, and evolution itself.

These are all iterative processes, and fractals themselves are interesting as they appear so readily in plant life.

How do you define order without referring to chaos, its opposite?

I’ve been thinking about this for a few days now and I’ve found an answer!

My favorite moon landing conspiracy is that it was faked but they hired Stanley Kubrick to direct it and he was so dedicated to make it look real he demanded that they shoot on location.
