Discourse back over at the bad place was also continually weighed down because fans hadn’t cut many toxic contributors out of circles early on. Any attempt to talk about merits of Discovery would blow up and have a pile on of accounts telling you how wrong you were, that you’re not a real fan.etc

To challenge and/or dismiss critique, because with Discovery many of the early critiques were unfounded (Michael being a ‘Mary Sue’ as a key example, despite the pilot literally being a story about her flaws). But they weren’t quickly challenged so became accepted ‘facts’ despite being anything but.

My 2c is that with the Star Trek fandom it’s almost a trauma response of sorts. The anti narrative against Discovery especially was so toxic and was sustained for so long (Kurtzman leaving every season literally became a meme) that fans of new content have a sort of default knee jerk reaction
