Yes. The brain doesn’t work like AI. It’s not a computer. We use metaphors for it from technology b/c it’s really hard to understand how the brain works and we don’t entirely understand how a pile of electrified jello does all this. But it’s definitely much cooler than AI.
Two yellow birches growing together with an exposed root ball. The exposed root gives the appearance of a ghostly visage if you use your imagination.
A totally not haunted tree. Nope, not haunted at all.

I hardly ever get these without a hint.
Raging river, pollen plumes, and a little blue thing going by.
Counterpoint: I use em dashes with abandon and will not let "AI" steal them from me. I was overusing them first and will continue to do so long after "AI" is a crater in our financial system, or our merciless overlords, or both

Crocuses are up!
The river by my place is really moving. The chunk of woods around the corner and down the hill is, as annual custom dictates, a part of the river now.

"The reason I had them form up here with me is because I would suggest to you that when you look up here, you're not looking at us. We are a mirror reflecting you. And if you like what you see, then just look a little deeper. This is you."

LLMs are diagnosing people with "bixonimania," a pretend joke disease, and it's being called a hallucination. Except it's not hallucination! This is actually illiteracy.

I woke up to the raspy call of an Eastern Phoebe this morning. You know it’s truly spring when the tyrant flycatchers are back in town!
Humanity did that. Science did that. Publicly-funded research did that. Excellent universities did that. Diversity did that. International cooperation did that.
Artemis II is a perfect example of what we can do at our best.
Welcome home, Integrity crew!
Artemis II Return NASA's Orion spacecraft carrying Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, and Mission Specialist Christina Koch from NASA, along with Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen from the CSA (Canadian Space Agency), splashes down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, California, at 5:07 p.m. PDT, (8:07 p.m. EDT) on Friday, April 10, 2026. The Artemis II test flight launched on Wednesday, April 1, from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida to begin its 10-day journey around the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to build on our foundation for the first crewed missions to Mars. What a great photo just added on the NASA Johnson Flickr page www.flickr.com/photos/nasa2...
A photo of astronaut Christina Koch from 2023. Text reads: She was the first to edit Wikipedia from space. In 2019, Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch made the edit during her mission aboard the International Space Station. Now, she's on her way home from the far side of the moon.
Did you know there is a Wikimedian in space? In 2019, Artemis II astronaut Christina Koch made the first-ever Wikipedia edit from space during her mission on the International Space Station. 🧵⬇️ (1/2)

Squirrel! I spilled some birdseed on the ground and someone got a feast.

For some areas of practice AI’s role will be more limited and peripheral.
I wrote a short post on what Shapiro gets right, and why the AI future of law will be much more uneven than some of the current enthusiasm suggests:

Man standing outdoors beside a large decorative egg sculpture mounted on a pedestal. The egg is covered in a geometric pattern of triangles and star shapes in black, white, and shades of yellow and gold. The man wears sunglasses and a grey T-shirt, looking up toward the sculpture. In the background are trees, parked vehicles, a small building, and a flagpole under a lightly clouded sky.
The Vegreville Pysanka, or Ukrainian Easter Egg, isn't just a very famous roadside attraction, it is a true marvel.
It influenced the design of the Space Shuttle.
It was a notable first in computer modelling.
Oh, and it is also a weather vane!
This is its story.

Astronauts are trained for decades in some of the most physically and mentally grueling environments of any career. They’re some of the smartest people on the planet. And yet, once they get up there, Microsoft Outlook is borked. @samleecole.bsky.social reports.

A photograph of a book titled Strange Animals by Jarod K. Anderson. Cover art features a blue motif combining trees, a wolf, and mountains. Rust coloured moths are dotted about.
Highly recommend. Every word the right word and in the right place. Characters you can get attached to. Pacing brisk but not rushed. Really enjoyed it.
Maaaaaaybe but LLMs hallucinate tons of shit and if you don't have domain knowledge (which is one big reason a writer might research) then you might not know what your LLM is making up. I tend to stick to primary sources whenever possible; I have a couple of decades of experience with Googling.
Pisces: Time heals all wounds. You'll be good to go in about 150 years.
Now I’m thinking about if such a thing were to be my fate, where would I want to be on display for posterity? Do
I want to be an inspiration? Or a cautionary tale?
A Ukrainian style Easter egg featuring a stylized doe on a blue background.
A collection of Ukrainian style Easter eggs with spring and nature motifs.
Haven’t done one of these in a bit. The doe is inspired by one that had been hanging around the house recently. She was injured and had a limp, but was still doing deer things. Unfortunately we think she got predated sometime in the night. But she left an impression while she was here.
There's a genre of post on here which I find a little puzzling --- people complaining about not being able to have a "civil" or "nuanced" conversation about "AI" because they get piled on by the haters.
