typesetting (only one part of lettering) is not just "put in text". you need to know what looks good and stupid AI does not know that! and every attempt at this has always been something ugly as hell, disrespectful af, that someone in my position has to clean up!! wasting everyone's time and money!!

Japanese and English colored of Neo Faust by Osamu Tezuka. They both show an old man with zany hair raising his hands.
Neo Faust is now available in English! This is the fourth Osamu Tezuka book that I got to letter with Ablaze, one of his last series that he was still working on when he passed away. It's a really cool book, and I've got a threads of stuff about the lettering below:

3. As much as I love Tezuka and am glad he blessed us with so many treasures, I wish he'd worked a little less hard and taken it easy more, so he could have been with us longer.

Some people say this doesn't work, but the "shoelace" effect PS has with their brushes always gets fixed once I turn off smoothing.
Might be worth a try if you haven't already.
How I duplicate text in Photoshop without increasing layers.
Convert to Shape, then opt + drag using the Path Selection Tool.
There might be a better way, but this is way smoother than if you were to use live text imo.

The artist for BR is incredibly dense & detailed, so it was very hard to find the space to subtitle SFX without negatively affecting the reading experience. I tried to visualize the composition/focus and place accordingly... But a different letterer might have chosen a different spot!

Battle Royale Deluxe Vol. 1 is out in the wild now!! I'm very happy to have gotten the chance to letter the new edition of this crazy series. Though after 600 pages of this I need something cute and fluffy to heal my soul...
