Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.
Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!

there’s never been a better time to be a dilettante with a PhD in CS
For sure. I don’t want a student to come to me saying ‘you told me to —dangerously-skip-permissions and it rm rf’d my root directory’
This is great news - I’m teaching an upcoming Agentic Coding Studio course for final-year undergraduates, and I’ve been wrestling with what I say (be careful!) and what I do (yolo mode) with Claude Code. This is the way.
Inside every model there are two Claudes
I’ve been using typst for paper writing recently, with a final ‘pandoc into latex and manual cleanup’ step to work with the supplied templates. It’s awesome - typst is the ‘scholarly markdown’ we’ve been waiting for
Claude Code really loves talking about a "belt and suspenders" approach to things
i'll take this further: "slop" is just a pejorative way to say "production has become much cheaper and things can now be made that could not justify their expense in the status quo ante cost structure".
the printing press was used for slop too. slop is just the expression of the freedom to make.
never interrupt your enemy while they are making a mistake or your child while they are eating a vegetable
Good news for Australians — the peak hours are 11pm–5am our time, so we basically get 2x usage all day every day 🦘
that would be so great
Did you know that arXiv is exploring to add Typst? The world's largest preprint archive faces unique challenges to keep science open. Join arXiv veteran Norbert Preining and learn what's ahead for arXiv and Typst.

increasingly believing much of the communication gap between LLM Enthusiasts and LLM Skeptics on this website boils down to “are you someone who has largely experienced a *reasonable* amount of job security in tech, or are you someone who has not experienced job security and likely aren’t in tech”
Dear @anthropic.com please consider extending your Claude Max subscriptions to open science software devs! Our repos may not have as many stars as those of some of our OSS peers, but we develop critical infrastructure in focused areas, and might even benefit more from what Claude Max offers!
I’ve been using this workflow for a couple of months now via Tailscale + the ShellFish SSH app - it’s great. But having official support is nice too
Say what you want about AI but since Opus 4.5 I’m having the most exciting time of my career. Both in terms of learning more and building faster. It’s a new tool you’ve gotta learn but once you have, you’re on a whole other level.
Yeah, I find that hard in *my* use of the tools, and I have [citation needed] fairly well developed metacognitive skills.
Do let us know if you find anything which works well in this regard, esp. if it's an idea which would be portable to other similar classes elsewhere.
Yeah, for sure. Do let me know if you find out which proportion of the students are taking that approach versus just paying for the Max plan – I’d be curious to know, because I am hoping to do something similar
Nice one. And have you found the $20/mo option has given the students enough rope? Hopefully it's pushed them to work regularly throughout the whole assignment period (waiting for the token reset windows) rather than last-minuting things?
Yes, atproto time dilation. A common problem.
Great to hear it's going well (assuming you hoped it would go well - I'm reading between the lines of your response there ☺️)
@shriram.bsky.social I've been discussing your syllabus with some colleagues - really interesting stuff. You're 6 weeks in, right? How's it going?
honestly I sort of miss it
I’ve noticed that Opus 4.6 tends to no longer give you those hilarious “estimate: 2 weeks of work” claims in the planning phase (before knocking it out in ten minutes)
I don’t love the current title
Btw I’m hoping to change the name to Agentic Software Development or similar
Nice one. I have been tasked* with writing the equivalent course here, but it doesn’t start til Aug, so my thoughts are a bit more embryonic. Still, I’m watching others (esp yours) with interest to pinch all the good ideas :)
*actually I’m quite excited
I’m blogging at benswift.me/blog/tag/com...
I want this but for zellij and jj workspaces
I added citations to my blog using atproto. My small, feeble attempt to make the scholarly Atmosphere a thing.

Every few months, I write an updated, idiosyncratic guide on which AIs to use right now.
My new version has the most changes ever, since AI is no longer just about chatbots. To use AI you need to understand how to think about models, apps, and harnesses. open.substack.com/pub/oneusefu...
For sure. The umbrella project is called ‘human-scale AI’
