De Brouwer made the exact same argument two years ago after the Robodebt Royal Commission report was delivered. This is how I treated it in Mean Streak: "Grow up."

Apparently it hasn't been delivered to any of the shops in my area today, but I see there are other ed-heads on the case so I'm confident you'll get them. I'm also heading to another part of town later so I'll have a look just in case, it's a pretty cool cartoon so I also want to see it in person

Genuinely not sure if Sam Altman actually put "I am Sam" on his forehead at some point, or the cartoonist needed to label him because he has less distinguishing features than a piece of chalk. Both options seem equally believable. Also I can pick up a copy.

Screenshot, text reads:
First, it’s not all roses for our CEOs right now. Spare a thought for the country’s top 100 chief executives, whose take-home pay has largely flatlined over the past decade to a median of $4.15 million.

Anyone else wondering if those renters who vote greens have been priced out of the inner city in Brisbane and Melbourne?

"The conquest of chill reflects an industry content to profit from a world of disconnection"
- Liz Pelly

Having been obsessed with music my whole life but never once signed up to spotify, and also being a fan of this podcast, this episode is the perfect crossover for me.

Vast censorship of political “donations” data - The Klaxon The Australian Electoral Commission has quietly executed the biggest act of political “donations” censorship in the nation’s history.

So messed up.

Also: I don't think of this as a genuinely held belief. At least not 100% of the time. It's more often a deliberate tactic to cultivate plausible deniability and an air of responsibility. Eg. I don't know why you're upset, I've been more than polite.

It's so hard to put a name on that, because it's so embedded in everything. And because the idea of rudeness/civility is really subjective it's harder to call out. But it's definitely a move designed to make people be quiet.

The tech oligarchy has been here for years What really drove the rise of Biden's 'tech industrial complex', and how to stop it

Biden warns of an oligarchy taking shape, of a tech industrial complex. He also just signed an executive order to lease federal lands to tech companies to build more data centers for AI.

That tech oligarchy is already here, and Dems are still enabling it.

When will Australia stop approving new fossil fuel projects?

Pacific Elders have penned an open letter to our Prime Minister and Opposition Leader in the Canberra Times.

"Australia’s fossil fuel project approvals undermine the survival & security of Pacific Island communities." #auspol

To be clear, current environmental laws give Tanya Plibersek the power to save the maugean skate, a dinosaur era fish AKA the ‘thylacine of the sea’ from the salmon industry.

The government doesnt need new laws to save the skate, it needs new courage

Not sure I've seen a bill more ill-thought through, and designed under the knowledge it is unworkable just because a govt is too weak to make a case against it because it is scared by FM stations and dying news.corp papers

People Are Getting Their Eyeballs Tattooed An unusual treatment that involves permanently changing the color of their eyes through an unusual cosmetic surgery procedure is soaring in popularity.

One time, in high school, someone asked me where I'd get a tattoo. I said "on the inside of my eyelid", because I thought it was funnier (and cooler) than saying I didn't want a tattoo. This is not the same, but for the record, I wasn't serious.

Heads up everyone - this means they hate how well the blocklists work, which is amazing. But also time to be discerning about which lists you subscribe to.
