Me standing in Barnes & Noble with a copy of my game “High Tide” in my hands!

It really hits something different when you can see and feel your game in a store! ✨

I never imagined I’d hit this point—now with many more games on the way!

Never expected my “unpublishable” abstract game would soar this far. You never know who else will fall in love with a simple idea! 🌊

That’s awesome! I’ve loved going to my wife’s book launches at book stores and wondered if any game makers did that.

Sounds like a great week of games!

Oh man, loved Animorphs as a kid. I’m glad there is a re-release (with the less creepy covers! Ha)

On a cross country road trip for a move, and stopped at @gamesunl.bsky.social in Pittsburgh on the way. Always fun (and a bit surreal) to see one of my games on a store shelf. Game is Burgle Bros 3, co-designed with Tim Fowers.

Got a chance to try out a prototype of Walkable City from @drawnonward.bsky.social. The prototype and draft rules I had weren't finished yet so there were questions here and there, but I really loved working with other players to build out transit options for the residents. 🧵

Played this one with Dan and had a good time with it. I really loved how the simultaneous dice “chucking and plucking” worked. Really well crafted.

It’s been a while since I played it but I think Hand to Hand Wombat relied on your sense of touch as you’re blindfolded.

A lot of games use sight in some way, but I think “quick reflex” games like Spot It as well as the depth perception test of Dive are unique sight-focused games.

Multiple Win Conditions: Welcome!
Multiple Win Conditions: Welcome! YouTube video by Always Awake Games

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how so much game design advice that’s available is really just business/product advice. It’s got a lot of survivorship bias and as a result, it’s homogenising and dissuading a lot of what’s possible.

So…I’m making a little vlog series about it!

I just backed Walkable City - the Urban Planning Boardgame on @kickstarter.com. Designed by the inimitable @drawnonward.bsky.social! I playtested a version of this a couple years back at Gen Con and it was wonderful.

Co-op! Which was likely partially inspired by the board game’s success with co-op, which was a board game based off of the original video game, which was a video game inspired by board games (deck builders).
