Or if they’re professors at the medical school I’d imagine?

That's why I don't want to start a hobby! I've pretty much given up on magazines to concentrate on books. My library offers free digital access to a bunch of them, including The New Yorker, so I can always flip through and read an article that interests me.

Good suggestion! I’ve seen him in concert a couple times and he is great. I don’t blame Bruce but these are things a careful editor should have caught - like someone’s last name spelled two different ways.

I really don’t understand the point of Simon & Schuster paying Springsteen millions of dollars to write a book and then doing a sloppy job with the editing. Bruce deserved better!

Reading Springsteen’s memoir and the lack of copyediting is driving me crazy. Is it winklepicker or winkle-picker? Pick a lane, Bruce!

We’re all paying because no Big Law firm would give Clarence Thomas a job when he graduated from Yale.

I would bet on it if I were a betting person! (It's not on today's cover. I checked the PDF.) And I agree. I don't like scrolling through a long story.

They've separated joining the military from the possibility of having to go to a war zone someday.

Magyar also formed a new party, which isn't really a viable option for Republicans seeking to distance themselves from Trump.

But Magyar isn't a "Democrat." From what I've read, he's more like a Republican who breaks with Trump yet is still conservative.

I just watched the Operation Mincemeat movie, on Netflix. Great cast: Colin Firth, Matthew Macfayden. Interesting WWII story but hard to imagine it as musical comedy. Maybe I'll get a chance to see when it tours.

The thing about high unemployment is, the vast majority of people still have jobs! Although a lot may be underemployed. So unless it affects you personally, you don't feel the impact. But high prices affect everyone.

Sounds like FIFA could afford to pay for NJ Transit security but that would cut into their profits. "FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said his organization will earn around $11bn in revenue from the World Cup in North America, while its budget is around $3.5bn."

It's also easier than focusing on the economy.

I think this is the best outcome for J.D. Now he isn't saddled with an agreement bearing his name. And he can always blame Iran's intransigence for the failure.

I would definitely go see that! I saw the Beatles tribute show, Rain, and it was fun.

I've read five or six le Carre books but not Call for the Dead. A Perfect Spy, partly based on his father, is my favorite.

A few 1961 books that I read years ago: Stranger in a Strange Land, Catch-22, Revolutionary Road. A couple I haven't read: The Phantom Tollbooth, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

I so agree with this -

Oh ok. Yes, I'm going by media coverage. I haven't heard anything about large-scale anti-Trump protests or protests against the Iran war on college campuses, at least not near me in New England.

Just going by what I've read in the history books about lunch counter sit-ins, freedom rides, freedom summer 1964.

Agreed. This front porch thing sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth.
