Fun fact: The Rangers' majority owner co-founded Energy Transfer, which built and operates the Dakota Access Pipeline. Rangers players wear Energy Transfer logo patches on their jerseys as part of a sponsorship deal.
Energy Transfer is currently on the verge of bankrupting Greenpeace in the U.S.

How often do you think about your personal philosophies in your work? Is it something you're conscious of?
I sometimes ask myself, "Am I against this because I'm tired? Or am I against this because the underlying philosophy conflicts with my own?" And increasingly, especially with AI adoption, it's more the latter than the former.
An idea I'm cooking for my newsletter - is resistance to change the fear of the new and refusal to let go, or is it because the proposed changes are actually bad? Who's to say.
In hindsight, getting a custom Reavo shirt is definitely a choice. Even if he's only a Shark for one season, I will always have a soft spot for him.
At a UC-AFT meeting wearing a Reavo Sharks jersey and I never considered how this is a reflection of my personality, but my heart is an enforcer.
Another post for my newsletter on what I learned in trying to use LLMs to make a baseball schedule.
LLMs and GenAI is being touted as a tool for everything, but that's not true. This exercise reminded me how the tech doesn't match the marketing.

For folks in California, AB 1557 was just amended to make up new definitions for Class 1 and 2 ebikes that would dramatically impact their usability for carrying kids and cargo. @calbike.bsky.social has a good summary; contact your representative now: click.everyaction.com/k/129073693/...
I’m so angry at the waste of time and money. The disregard for staff time and expertise is infuriating.
I kind of want to put them in yards with the “Safe Hopkins” or whatever signs.
And this Television Personalities song. youtu.be/R7gMnaKUqkU?...
And listen to “How Does It Feel” by Crass youtu.be/QpnP6Bz6P9k?...
13 years ago today Margaret Thatcher died.
Which makes me think of this video clip.

This is Berkeley. "We value evidence based science until it inconveniences me."
This week's issue of The Golden Stat(e) from CRB (@CAStateLibrary) is highlighting BART employment and ridership levels:
Aside from a brief spike in FY20, before COVID, staffing has remained remarkably stable ... Ridership, while growing steadily, remains less than half pre-COVID highs.
Thinking this morning about this conversation I had with @keawilson.bsky.social on the Brake podcast. Just a random thought I'm sure, no reason toxic masculinity might be top of mind.

Isn't 94706 Albany (though I always forget it)?
Every ZIP Code along Hopkins has majority support for expanding bike infrastructure. Every district along Hopkins voted for Measure FF (which funds paving + bike infrastructure) and against Measure EE (which promised paving without bike infrastructure). This isn't a culture war; it's consensus.
I procrastinate by thinking of bike routes to soccer practice.
I am so fucking sick of the both-sidesing that keeps happening re: Hopkins bike lanes. Pro-street safety folks want the city to try harder to keep them from dying and the pro-parking people want to keep parking in front of their destinations for free forever. These things are not the same.
MLB's ABS system somehow feels extremely human. It's not human vs robot, it's human vs human as judged by a robot.

Unreal announcement to get in my inbox but i wanted to share.
School teachers shouldn't need to defend themselves and their students from violent ICE raids.

It's bad to burn lots of carbon for absolutely no benefit, period.

I don't know how driving Dialog with a modern LLM would help people think about how search tools actually work.
Do you remember Dialog? I do.
Some thoughts on how research is hard and we take that for granted.

Turns out the city celebrates Farmworkers Day today and so there's no city camp today. Of course I found this out when I rolled up with my kid to go to skate camp this morning.
Trying to salvage the day and triage while watching the kid mess about. Thank you hot spot.
I always assumed the traffic was due to convenience and poor planning. Guess I was wrong!
