My conscious uncoupling: when a relationship no longer serves you, itโs time to move onโhow I feel about my recent breakup with Twitter. I reflect on how social media has evolvedโfrom connecting astronauts in orbit to how we connect today. open.substack.com/pub/amikokel...

This statement Nana Visitor makes about the impact Nichelle Nichols had in setting the bar for her fellow actors was enlightening and empowering.
I hope you get the chance to listen to this full interview!๐โจ
#StarTrek
Fascinating conversation with Nana Visitor, where she talks about her new book about women in Trek, including how terrified she was when they were shooting DS9 to speak up, even when she was ACTIVELY IN LABOR.
Black man, black hair and beard, grey tshirt, with lanyard reading "NASASocial" and NASA meatball logo
rewatching the movie The Martian. Best easter egg ever... the lanyard that character Rich Purnell (NASA Astrodynamicist) is wearing is from a #NASAsocial ! Raise your hand if you have a #NASAtweetup or #NASAsocial lanyard. So many memories of launches, JPL visits, and more

I met so many wonderful people on the #ArtemisI #NASASocial
(there were 100 of us!). Including Astronauts Christina Koch
and Doug Wheelock on the Turn Basin dock, briefing us. And Christina is now on the #ArtemisII crew! Way cool!
One of the things I'm grateful to Twitter-that-was for is its role in facilitating/creating the NASATweetUp (later NASASocial) events. Here are some shots from watching the STS-134 Shuttle launch:

Memories on Facebook today are full of feed from 12 years ago attending the #NASATweetup for the launch of Curiosity. Randomly sat at a table and met @tomtomorrow.bsky.social, had a great time at Kennedy Space Center. Tomorrow is anniversary of launch of what I still think of as โmyโ rover.

A watercolor painting on a black background, with rainbow clouds framing a portion of the Eagle Nebula star-forming region as seen by the James Webb Space Telescope in combined images of near- and mid-infrared light. The near-infrared light brings out the myriad of stars in the region, while the mid-infrared light shows the dust, a primary component in star formation.
Finished! โUNSEEN PILLARSโ, 8x8โ, pearlescent watercolor on cradled art board, finished September 5, 2023. The Eagle Nebula (M16 star-forming region) as seen by JWST. This piece will be part of Central Art Gallery's Equal Sides show on September 15!

Almost finished with my wip #M16 โPillars of Creationโ as seen in infrared by JWST. Need to do final outlines in silver, put in the main stars and rays.

Valuable advice! Though now I want a pet squid that attack-licks on command.

Today's NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day ("APOD"): My shot of the #SpaceX Crew-7 rocket nebula.
It still completely blows my mind that there are 4 humans (and a rocket booster returning to launch site) in that cloud.

"ISS' Moon Transit"
Oil painting on 5"x7" canvas paper.
Planning to post it after I scan it and send it to US, but since for now I'm focusing on my dad's health, I post it sooner. Thank you for my very understanding patron.
Inspired by Andrew J. McCarthy's ISS pic.
The Ten Rules For Being Human: You will receive a body. You will be presented with lessons. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Lessons are repeated until learned. Learning does not end. "There" is no better than "here." Others are only mirrors of you. What you make of your life is up to you. Your answers reside inside of you.
Lessons are repeated until they are learned.
All good things must come to an end. The only reason I was holding on to my Twitter/X account was for #NASASocial but with the new TOS that's being rolled out, it's a bridge too far. Screenshot for posterity - final tweets & follower count before before I wipe everything, once I obtain my archive.
