Didn't manage to track down any spoonbills at Fairburn Ings this afternoon, but did see my first sand martin of the year, plus cattle and great white egrets, and white-fronted and pink-footed geese.

Today the American wigeon near East Cottingwith was much more obliging (and actually there, which helped). Pic taken at around 2.20pm today.

I kind of expected this would happen, Steve!

American wigeon wasn't at the pond off Langrickegate Road at 4.40pm today (or at 5.30 on my way back). Tried the Refuge from East Cottingwith - not there either but 10 whooper swans and more black-tailed godwits than I could count. @yorkbirding.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

Marsh, not marah - must learn not to write anything without my glasses on...

Some were ringed but couldn't get a close enough view through my scope to read anything.

@birdguides.bsky.social @teesbirds.bsky.social Big flock of twite down at Seaton Snook - I'm no good at counting birds in flocks but would estimate anywhere between 50.and 100 on the marah
