Patricia D. Posey’s “A Race and Capitalism Framework to Study Financial Access” reveals how race and capitalism shape financial access. Three mechanisms—exclusion, extraction, and valuation—perpetuate racial inequality and profit.

I’m excited that an article I co-authored w/ Erica Townsend Bell on BACKLASH is finally out in the new issue of @polityalsberuf.bsky.social!
We read every article mentioning “backlash” to show how it’s currently used & propose how to think of it moving forward

Well, yes, trans people are getting drugs; yes, from entirely unregulated sources; yes, without counselling; yes, without blood tests; yes, they are self-administering; yes, without clinical oversight; yes, risking long term harm; yes, it is highly suboptimal.
What did you think would happen?
A screenshot of a digital news article from The Sunday Times. Headline: "Trust me, taking testosterone as a woman is about more than sex". Subheader: "Most doctors only prescribe the hormone for low libido yet menopause campaigners say it has many other benefits too. So why is no one researching these claims?". Article on 'Black-Market' Hormones A screenshot of a digital news article from The Times. Headline: "Doctors fear young at risk from ‘black-market trans hormones’". Absolutely incredible.
Columbia will never be free of this stain.
Our political science colleague and friend Tiffany Willoughby-Herard is being targeted by anti-speech and anti-academic freedom forces after defending her student’s right to protest. Consider donating to her legal fund if you have the means to do so.
Footage taken moments before a struggle shows that the man was filming, holding a phone in his right hand, backing up. His left hand is up, visible, palm facing out, as he backs away from the area. An agent uses his right hand, on the torso of the victim, pushing him back, while the man complies.
My college macro economics class was right before lunch (and over 20 years ago) so I might be wrong but I don’t think gold prices creeping on $5k is a good sign.
Transphobia destroys your capacity to evaluate the world and politicians.
This is what it leads to: voting for a man who hates you, because he swears to destroy those queers you despise.
Prison guards are flocking to ICE jobs and frankly this makes sense. Those of us who have been anti-prison organizers for decades have been saying that fascism already existed within prisons/jails. Our best teachers for how to survive fascism are incarcerated people.
Welcome to Minnesota, fuckers. Also this is super disturbing because the ICE agent's assault rifle appears to fire as he falls down.
This was filmed by a friend near Chicago and Lake last night.
When Renee Good said "I'm not mad at you" what the ICE goon heard was "I'm not scared of you."
That's what enraged him. The populace wasn't fully terrorized and cowed into submission yet, so he acted to make that happen.
Not an exaggeration at all to say that the feeling in Minneapolis is that the entire metro area is being treated as occupied territory by federal agents. Impossible to overstate how overwhelmingly people here do not like it. This does not feel sustainable.
Vague resemblance to the plot of the 2011 film, Contagion. Except in this case the deadly virus is the federal government (in the form of Proud Boys with badges).
Valuable analysis and it will be necessary to create an archive of these actions.
After 2 years of watching a genocide life streamed on our phones (and ~5 after watching Floyd murdered by police just blocks away) I’m sadly not too optimistic about any future systemic changes.
Charlottesville, remember Heather Heyer
I don't know who needs to hear this, but cops are not allowed to shoot people just because you didn't do what they said.
That is called murder when they do that.
Some cops are working hard to convince people otherwise.
A Black man named Keith Porter was shot and killed by an ICE officer on New Year’s Eve.
Marimar Martinez was shot five times by an ICE officer in Chicago who went on to brag about leaving seven holes in her body.
This is not new but it is expanding.
If only there were recently a movement calling for the exposure of lies that governments tell to justify extrajudicial assassinations 🥲
The rhetoric about the weaponization of cars from that camp is disgusting.
I remember when an avowed white supremacist killed Heather Heyer like it was yesterday because it’s also today.
There are people who still don't understand that you can do everything right--you can do everything they tell you--and you will still be shot in the face.
After the assassination of Melissa Hortman it’s not hard to understand why a woman in Minnesota would be afraid of a man in a mask who says he’s a cop.
Can’t help but think that if our fellow MAGA citizens can dehumanize a white mom in a Honda CRV, we are well beyond “first they came for the communists”
one net effect of this will just be to make life a little harder for Americans in ways, they can’t quite put their finger on, because some of these organizations do the invisible work of multilateralism that enables contemporary life; another will be to hold up progress on most shared global goal…
I lived in Minneapolis just short of a decade and I can tell you that if a Minnesotan drops an f-bomb on national TV then they are PISSED.
People don’t talk enough about how Trump’s anti-trans witch hunt is deeply offensive to trans AND non-trans women. Just look at his impression of women weight lifters to see what he and the GOP really think about you and your mothers, sisters, wives, and gfs.
