Yesterday, the Department of History held a memorial for Habbo Knoch – who is still much missed as a historian, teacher, colleague, and friend. It was great to see how many students and colleagues gathered for the occasion. He is much missed.

»Released from ice are brook and river«, as Goethe's Faust says… A beautiful and sunny Easter Sunday in Cologne today, talking the obligatory walk along the Rhine. Today, it is 51 days until #iftr2025. Excited to see all of you soon…

The other day, I came across this impressive installation on the way to my office. Since then I wonder why are there so few »How many theatre historians does it take to change a light bulb?«-jokes… #TheatreHistoryRocks

Already on my way home. It was a great week and I am than happy for the opportunity to speak at Malta’s conference.
Yesterday, I also had the chance to see Valletta’s cathedral and its two Caravaggio paintings. I am particularly fond of his S. Jerome.
Thanks for the hospitality!

This afternoon ended our GIAN-workshop. Anurupa Roy joined us and broad her colleague Malvolio. A surprise and highlight.
I am most grateful for JNU hospitality! I have learnt a lot and our discussions and questions will accompany me for a while.

Today was the fourth day of our GIAN workshop. Enriched by a wonderful and most inspiring lecture by Indu Jain.
Earlier in the morning, we had the chance to visit Qutub Minar. Saw the iron pillar - quite comforting in these unhinged days to see that there is a point around which the world circles…

The more I dig into this, the more fascinating it gets. I am excited to expand my research… Latest findings: jugglers, the decapitation of John Bapt., and elephants… Hopefully my first full piece on early modern elephants will appear in 2025… stay tuned

Early Modern Media Ecology Cambridge Core - Renaissance and Early Modern Literature - Early Modern Media Ecology

A Jesuit, a gunner-pyrotechnician and a female principal of strolling actors walk into an early modern bar… Sounds like the beginning of a joke someone told you before? I don’t know about the joke but for sure it is part of my take Cambridge Elements: www.cambridge.org/core/element...

Last Wednesday, Habbo Knoch, a colleague and close friend, has died. He was a brilliant historian, a dedicated academic teacher and a committed citizen. First and foremost, he was a most dear friend. I lack words to express my sadness. RIP

I am very excited about two digital guest lectures in my classes today: Bishnupriya Dutt (JNU; New Delhi) will speak on Holi in my class on Carnival and the Carnivalesque and Tracy C. Davis (Northwestern University) on S. George and the dragon in my dragon-seminar. What a treat!

Today, the copies have arrived! Such a pleasure. Max R has accompanied me throughout my years as a professional scholar and I am thrilled to see that my German book is now available for my international colleagues. I am most grateful.
