I end up finding myself laughing at scenes like that in pokemon fan games because they have always been so over the top that it jumps the shark for me

A lot of fangames (resurgence, unbound, etc.) have always felt like they want to cement themselves as "serious pokemon games" by including murder and death cults

But it always gave me tonal whiplash

like, dude, I just caught a silly electric mouse and now I'm watching someone violently die lmao

Pokemon has always been really good at putting really dark things in their games but obscuring it just enough that it feels rewarding for older players to discover, while also maintaining a joyous and whimsical experience for younger players

It makes for a really good balance of tone and theming

IMO Pokopia's (and by extension, other Pokemon game's) writing style of "write a bunch of really dark shit but hide it under the silliness and whimsy of Pokemon just enough that the player has to seek it out and discover it" is one that a lot of Pokemon fangame creators should take the time to study

Most ways I found were very rudimentary and didn't look that good. The only other alternative was using Unity plugins, which I wasn't into doing.
