I bought one a few weeks back as a home web dev machine and have no regrets. Incredible device for the money.

BOOM!
South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less.
THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis.

Lovely stuff. In the 2026 Q1 blog the auto memo link is broken, I was actually riffing with Claude on how to build something similar yesterday!
You missed the opportunity to include an intentional typo in that.

McMurtry on speed dial!
It works, if you set up Apply Pay on your watch, you can just authorise payments on your non TouchID MacBook Neo, using Apple Watch. Another reason not to pay the Apple Tax for the Touch ID model.
I’ll give it a go.
Didn’t know you could pass apply pay approvals off to Apple Watch, does this work with a Touch ID less Mac?
Thanks!

@simonwillison.net hey, just a note to say I’m really enjoying your blogs and posts here - particularly the vibe coding stuff. Dabbling myself in my spare time and really enjoying making things again after many years away from it.

Current Apple Pay position (20) is criminal!
Looks good on yellow IMO.
Looks great. What are we calling the bar under the lights? (Eye) “Shadow bar”?
Beautiful! 👏
Watching “The Capture” on BBC iPlayer which is very very good and i recommend. Massively into my MacBook Neo, which I bought “sans Touch ID” because you can enable sign in via Apple Watch.
I’ve read the book - did they do it good?
Transfer Point will be available this Friday, March 27. You’ll be able to play it free in your browser at robotspacer.software. A downloadable version will be available for $5 on robotspacer.itch.io to play on your own classic Mac or emulator. The download includes a PDF of the illustrated manual.
Apple MacOS dialog showing that Apple Pay is not supported on the Touch ID less MacBook Neo.
One downside to no Touch ID… I was kinda expecting it would use Apple Pay approval on the watch but there you go. Can’t have everything for £599.
I visited a local store so I could see the colours in person, went for silver (white keys).
dear apple. when i want to choose another card, i will ALWAYS tap the top thing. always. i will never tap the second thing. please fix. thank u love u
Definitely. Way more capable than any PC or Chromebook at the same price.
Slightly smaller than 13 inch MacBook Air, softer radius on the edges make it feel nicer in the hand too. Incredible value for money.
