A drawing of Lum from Urusei Yatsura. She’s in a cute pose with her arms behind her back, leaning one to side and looking at the viewer. Behind her is a big crescent moon amongst a starry sky.
Somethin’ cute and simple! Been on a very big Urusei Yatsura kick—one of the most joyously madcap shows I’ve ever seen (and loved!)
My newest article for MagicalStage, all about Pierrot’s return to 80s mahou shoujo with “LuluttoLilly”

that would be an atrociously chaotic idea to put into practice. it would be funny, i grant you, but completely mad nevertheless
true. that is probably why i barely touch this website either lol. but anyways, hi! i don’t think i’ve seen you in ages!
discord is useful for letting us curate our perfect communities of like-minded people but there was admittedly something to the town square nature of twitter that brought together people who’d normally never interact, forcing us out of our comfort zones. but also that was hell. i could never go back
While we're all talking about Ko Takeuchi, here's the incredible piece they drew for me lmao
oh hey new SubparGeekGirl96 cartoon (not an April Fools thing, actually a whole new episode)

Kasumin 15 is out now.
More importantly, an amazing person who shaped a humane philosophy that the studio carried from its founding until now, and in the hands of his family, into the future. People who crossed paths with him remember both small acts of kindness and his ahead-of-their-time views on animation production
All my condolences about the passing of KyoAni founder & president Hideaki Hatta. No exaggeration to say that he's been one of the most important individuals in the history of this industry, especially if you consider that he also had a hand in IG's inception www.kyotoanimation.co.jp/information/...
sad to hear this, it was a good run. thanks for the laughs, and the cries, and...ah...

made a beat little comicfury site for my comic book Dusty Daggers in preparation for issue #2. if you never got to read #1, now you can easily!
as some of you may know i run a discord called "world animation!" unfortunately due to the trials of moderating a discord we've had to make our invite process somewhat selective. if you're interested, here's a quick guide on how to join! docs.google.com/document/d/1...
Telecom Animation Film is getting dissolved and absorved by TMS Entertainment.
As far as I remember, they had been in debt for a long time so it doesn't come as a total surprise, but it's still a sad news. Lupin the IIIRD The Immortal Bloodline was basically their swan song

made a music video of cartoons i think you should see before you die. highly biased, personal, and non-comprehensive youtu.be/6T5bsHjb-dE?...

trying to get back in the habit!

I don’t think an anime opening has ever made me laugh so hard.
NO KINGS.
The fun part is they all have their own tricks! Kitanohara did something similar with objects rather than characters. Ota turned digital effects like sparkles, shading, reflections, etc into clearly drawn effects... then it all contrasts with the physical backdrop. "Handmade" from a different angle!
The ways CITY's creative width becomes specific technical choices is also fascinating. Given how stylized everything is, each director basically adapts to the "level of technology" of the series. Ishidate started by translating photography ideas like being out of focus into the drawings themselves
One of CITY's greatest achievements is pushing veteran artists to tackle new challenges. Joji Unoguchi started as an in-betweener in the 80s, became a leader of KyoAni's budding BG art crew, then spent decades as art & 3DBG director
His role in CITY #05? Creating a diorama to set the episode into
A tablespread group draw between me, ibcf, and aaron long. from left to right: a clump of characters by me, including mort, platypus duck and some other designs; aaron long and fester fish (RARE!!); and ibcf with the cat/mammalian creature from prit paarn's "time out" pointing and yelling "oh my god it's platypus duck!!!"
my clump isolated

jammin my way outta #OIAF2025 soon...thanks for hangin out @vertecks.bsky.social @ibcf.bsky.social @aaronlong.bsky.social
(It's because it apparently has a gag page by me in it, which would be cool to see. The one with DUCK TWACY cameo)
The main protagonists of Azumanga Daioh, all japanese schoolgirls, having a chilean-style barbecue themed around Chile's september 18th national holiday. All six of them -Chiyo, Osaka, Sakaki, Yomi, Tomo, Kagura- are dressed like cueca dancers or like peasants and landworkers from the country's central region, and are eating chilean dishes like empanadas, anticuchos and choripanes.
I'm on a trip outside my home country, and since it was very recently Chile's national holiday, i thought of giving it a farewell by giving the girls from Azumanga Daioh a good ol' chilean "asado." I love these characters and i thought of no better way to honor them.
anyone else at #OIAF?
