Earthset from Artemis II.
art002e009288 (April 6, 2026) – Earthset captured through the Orion spacecraft window at 6:41 p.m. EDT, April 6, 2026, during the Artemis II crew’s flyby of the Moon. A muted blue Earth with bright white clouds sets behind the cratered lunar surface. The dark portion of Earth is experiencing nighttime. On Earth’s day side, swirling clouds are visible over the Australia and Oceania region. In the foreground, Ohm crater has terraced edges and a flat floor interrupted by central peaks—formed when the surface rebounded upward during the impact that created the crater.
"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."

Showing my age that I keep mishearing "discussion of the limb" on the NASA livestream as "discussion of the LEM." #Artemis

Speaking as a friend to animals, I'd say the only time stomping weasels would be remotely justified would be if they didn't bring you cheese on Cheese Weasel Day.

So many wistful reminders this week with Artemis 2. I've been watching the NASA livestream, and just had a twinge as I happened to glance over to the shelf that now holds all my dad's old Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo books. He was so excited by Artemis 1, and he'd have loved to have watched this.

I don't think I'd heard the glitter bomb analogy before, but it's fitting. It hasn't gone away in the year+ since my dad died, but the quality of the grief has changed. It usually expresses itself as more of a wistful melancholy now. Which isn't exactly easier, but it's at least less all-consuming.

I grew up on the 1st generation of CTW shows. Then my first job after college was at a PBS station in the early 90s, so I saw every Ghostwriter ep MANY times. When I heard the backstory many years later it felt so right given all the hints dropped in the show. I wish that reveal had made it to air.

Also Blake's 7. And while I haven't seen it in almost 43 years, I remember the M*A*S*H finale as being excellent but not quite perfect.

I do have that song to thank for a joke that has caused MANY friends, family members and coworkers to choose violence over the past 40 years. Q: Where does Phil Collins record all his songs? A: In the stu-stu-studio.

My family members have learned to hide their reactions so they can deny me the satisfaction. The best I can usually get these days is "Riiiiiiiiight."

I didn't work at CompuServe, but was a very active user, and I remember we called progressive GIFs "creamy" and interlaced GIFs "crunchy."

I have a friend who’s parent to an enby kid, but also a huge HP fan, and has a several-times-a-week CFA habit. I can’t even begin to even.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

I had that same realization two weeks ago — I built my first website while working the long 4th of July weekend in 1995, and that’s basically been my full-time job ever since. “In web years, I’m dead.”

Dunno what’s out towards DC, but walking along the W&OD near Dulles this afternoon I saw a B-29, a B-25, and a C-47 taking off after an event at Udvar-Hazy.

Back in 1992 I gave John Lithgow and his son directions during an event I was working in Harvard Yard. A third of a century and one supremely unfortunate casting announcement later, I wish I'd get another opportunity to tell him where to go.

I'd only been vaguely aware of Va. higher ed issues until this weekend, when my daughter decided to accept her offer from UVA (for BS in physics). How much are recent issues caused by Ryan, vs. Youngkin meddling through the BofV? How easily can (hopefully) Spanberger fix? I need to look into this.
