Perhaps the funniest thing is that, if I asked my hairdresser, who grew up in Damariscotta, I bet he would know who this is 🤣

There was so much bandwidth demand yesterday that we did not get many, many texts and calls from my daughter.

It was unintentional but a useful experience. She felt panicked but was fine - just couldn’t get an immediate response. Rare to have to rely on oneself for any amount of time these days.

It feels to me like many people don’t necessarily see or experience that gritty side of Massachusetts - but it is what feels most authentic to me. As Boston has become wealthier, that culture has receded / dispersed but it pops up here and there.

The Dropkick Murphys are a local treasure.

They remind me of the grit - and grittiness - of Massachusetts culture. There is defiance, resilience, connection, humor, and joy in their music that reflects our culture.

Perfect for this moment.

Also why stoke the us/them dynamic?

People are people, each diverse and living in different contexts with a lot of variables - but everyone wants good food, housing, healthcare, and education.

Oh, that every man could experience being alone or with just a friend or two at a women’s college for a day.

I had friends ready to call security because there were two men walking around campus my freshman year, because they were seen suspiciously.

The same applies to the whole university and higher ed in general, as student bodies tipped over to majority female, faculty got to something approaching gender equity, and prominent leadership roles went to women (ahem Claudine Gay ahem)
