Mom, can I ask you a question ~ by Thao Votang Which finger was it that I should use to measure water for rice? Was it up to three quarters of one segment of my ring finger? Not my left ring finger though, not the finger I will tie myself to a man...

This #FlashFiction from @votang.bsky.social unspools through its succession of questions in such an interesting way, building in insistence from beginning to end and exploring so much in such a small space. Great piece!

Louise Glück Stories, poems, essays, and interviews from The Paris Review by Louise Glück

"She feels it, as though the last bit of linen had frozen in her hands. / She looks at her hands—how old they are. It’s not the beginning, it’s the end."

The Paris Review has unlocked Louise Glück's poems in their archive.

RIP Louise Glück. My favorite poet, someone whose work was incredibly influential on my own. I have spent years—joyously—trying to pin down the command of voice that Glück wielded effortlessly.
