Hi folks! My collaborators at UNC and I are recruiting for a new research study focused on improving an eating disorders prevention program for South Asian women living in the United States! Please see the flyer for more details and share widely with anyone who may qualify!
Starting today, new SNAP restrictions in Texas prevent purchase of candy bars, gum, sweetened drinks, and nuts, raisins, or fruits coated in chocolate/yogurt/caramel.
Imagine using your political power to prevent a parent on low-income from buying a candy bar for their child.
Calling all youth interested in helping shape real-world policy in eating disorders! If you’re based in Virginia, California, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Washington, join our focus group to share your thoughts and opinions on eating disorder policy.

Oh my gosh!!!! Our paper, which provides evidence from a nationally representative US sample that people who screen positive on an ED screener are more likely to report interest and attempts to access GLP-1s like Ozempic, was just accepted at IJED!

For the first time in 25 years the United States is on the brink of losing its measles elimination status due to misinformation about vaccines from RFK Jr.. Measles weakens the immune system and opens doors for other illnesses that can become deadly. #RemoveRFKJr, Save Lives.
Scientific Research Policy: National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The federal R&D agencies not only deploy a large amount of capital but also maintain a large infrastructure and national prestige (for example, the Department of Energy’s national laboratories). Even small and non-financial changes could have a big effect. For example, the National Science Foundation’s Broader Impacts Statement or the National Institutes of Health’s Significance Statement, which link a project to specific, measurable benefits, could be refined to explicitly focus on impacts to families and communities. The National Science Foundation explicitly expects projects to have “the potential to benefit society and contribute to the achievement of specific, desired societal outcomes.” For example, research in public health or behavioral science could lead to ways to reduce anxiety, addiction, and depression that may be impairing marriage formation and stability as well as improve child health metrics to reduce overall pressures on families. Researchers will need to be as concrete as possible in defining measurable outcomes on marriage and family over time.
Boop.
SNEAK PEAK at what all that HHS funding is about to go to.

On my way to the Supreme Court where I'll be proud to support 15-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson, West Virginia's only transgender athlete, as she opposes the state's effort to ban her from playing as herself.
Win or lose, Becky and her family are heroes for standing up for what's right
I’m happy to see the new American Cancer Society report showing that the U.S. has reached a historic milestone in cancer survivorship, where 70% of patients live for 5+ years after diagnosis.
But I also see it as a requiem, because the systems that made it happen have been destroyed.

Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.
3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.
4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.
It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.
Story to come.

At the @abctnow.bsky.social conference, PhD student Jenessa Shaw's poster shared findings from a #qualitative study of feared food exposure experiences in adults with #EatingDisorders undergoing #CBT. Thanks to everyone at #ABCT2025 who came to check it out!
The second poster was a study exploring disordered eating anonymous group attendance prior to eating disorder treatment and how attending these groups prior to treatment may relate to clinical presentations at intake to eating disorder treatment.
I had the privilege of presenting 2 posters this year. The first was a @abct-edeb-sig.bsky.social SIG poster exploring people’s experiences using coaching services for eating disorder recovery. This was my first conference presentation on my Masters thesis project!
I had a lovely time at #ABCT2025 presenting my posters, eating amazing food, and frolicking around New Orleans with some of my favorite people! @ashlinnpeters.bsky.social @drmartinwagar.bsky.social @sambedard.bsky.social @julianic.bsky.social @abctnow.bsky.social
