Fandoms like these were just forcing others' to follow their own beliefs and not trying to be more creative and mainly sticking to canon/oc. It's basically trying to say "It's okay for OCs to have canon aus, while AUs aren't allowed to have Canon AUs"
Many Fandoms have declined due to the tension between canon and AU ideas. Generally suffer from disregarding AUs the cause of this is usually manifested as fandom fragmentation, toxicity, or creative stagnation. Which suffered from Canon/OC Fatigue strictly canon or oc-only, sadly.
