Why not, one like = one movie to get to know me!
episode 102
Also this reminds me of my most common type of interaction with my therapist...
Me: Have you ever watched [insert TV show or movie here]?
Therapist: No.
Me: Well, first of all, you should watch it. But anyway, there's this scene...
*10 minutes go by*
... and that's why I'm sad!
NO.
Maybe they buy it together 🥹
Come to think of it so does Conan
Dave Letterman has the chance to do the funniest thing rn...
Between this, new Bouncing Souls, new Evanescence, and new Saosin, it's been a very big week for me specifically!
It's a beautiful day to listen to La Dispute on a loop and stare into the void.
Also, keep movies in theaters for more than 2 wks!
Also also, start running trailers on streaming services the way movie trailers used to run on TV! It would be *so easy to do,* but everyone is apparently too busy collecting money from pharma to remember that they have their own products to sell!
I love it when they eat lettuce 😍 They just love that lettuce!
Ahhh the manatees! My friends!!! Say hi for me 🥹
Feeling very helpless about a lot of things lately, but today, I finally figured out how to restore the community garden's access to all of its forwarding email aliases, and I have to say, in this exact moment, I am feeling like a god.
Those ray guns that evaporated people into green and orange skeletons 😭 I could not handle it!!
Also, Tobe Hooper's Salem's Lot at eight or nine. Babysitter was asleep, and as a result, I had a lot of nightmares about floating vampires with glowing eyes.
Mars Attacks! at five. Hilarious now. Terrifying then. Mom had to spray my room with "martian repellant" for months afterward.
Ahhhh, I could really go for a TCBY right now.
New byline alert: I wrote about AI in Hollywood for Marie Claire!
This also ran in print, which presented a very interesting challenge because I filed months ago and the conversations about this tech have been shifting quickly. Still, I think it holds up!

This was really well done! It's going to be such a conspicuous shift for CBS when Late Show leaves...
"It is evil. But like... not evil enough for me to leave my back yard and rally my colleagues to actually do something about it."
Aaaaahhh this rules! Also, love the name.
Combine that with the fact that so many movies leave theaters, like, 3.2 minutes after their premieres, and I don't think this is a tough mystery to crack!
Maybe I am misremembering, but IIRC, Back in My Day, I was BOMBARDED with movie trailers during ad breaks. But now, despite the fact that most streamers are tied to a major movie studio, they inundate me with ads for GLP-1s and cancer meds instead.
Bad strategy! Stresses me out and I buy nothing!
I think the issue is less that today's releases are not "worth" moviegoers coming out and more that by the time most moviegoers find out a thing has released, it's already left theaters!

"We conclude that in the long run, a primary driver of retail vacancy in dense urban areas is the fact that landlords are willing to forgo rents today in order to preserve the option to lease their space to someone else (who might pay higher rents) tomorrow. "

I wish that Pentagon request would silence any sort of "we can't afford ..." (I know it won't.)
If we can find $200B to sooth the ego of sundowning narcissist, we can afford to fund ANYTHING. Including air traffic control.
EVERY aspect of degraded service we see is a CHOICE.
There was ONE ATC in the tower at LGA during last night's crash.
ONE ATC, at LGA!, dealing w ALL air and ground traffic, including a plane filling w a strange smell and no gate to return to.
The Pentagon wants $200B for a vanity war, but our ATC towers are empty.
Budgets are moral documents.

ICE detention deaths are now occurring at a rate of roughly one every four days. Three weeks ago that rate was one every six days. The pace is accelerating, and Congress has not launched a single investigation.
